electrical geek assistance needed

I'm trying to wire up a new turn/flasher switch with a built in relay but I'm not smart enough to decipher the diagram. Off of the switch there is 5 connections:

30
31
15
L
R

I assume L/R is the signal out to the blinkers...and 31 appears to be power but I'm not certain.

Any ideas on wiring this bitch up?

Standard Germanski things> 30 is dirct to batt
15 is keyed power

the rest who knows
standard German 87 is load or whatever (light, horn, fan etc)
85 is ground and 86 is "switch" (the blinker switch or whatever)

what John said. then L should go to a switch and out of the switch to left blinkers. Same for right. 31 is ground I believe

thanks guys...the switch is actually built in so L/R is direct to the blinkers.

A gratuitous wiring picture since I'm actually making progress on one of the cars!

31 is ground 30 battery 15 key power (switched)
that if its set to German DIN standards.

bench wired it as advised: 31 ground, 30/15 power and L/R to a led test strip.

the flasher function worked but the turn signals wouldn't work....scratching my head still

What does a meter say when hooked to the l or r terminal?

Try it with normal light bulbs. Seems like I remember something odd about LEDs and flashers not always working together...another shop was messing with a Jeep with LEDs and had to wire in a normal bulb to get it to work. A few years ago, not much help I'm afraid.

An electronic flasher unit that flips a transistor on and off based off of a timer chip will have no problem with LEDs.

An older flasher that flashes based off of current draw has a huge problem with LEDs because LEDs don't hardly draw any current. So, you have to use actual bulbs, preferably wired the way the car is wired (correct number and type of bulbs per circuit). Easiest/best way would be to just wire the thing in to the car because the car already is wired the way the car is wired, and you are going to have to install it sometime anyway.

That sounds right Pete. I barely remember hearing about it but not much more.It was an old 50's Jeep.

I have several LED strip lights in our boat, they are polarity sensitive (not sure if all are).
