I should have been more clear, the dog had the low thyroid causing physiological disorders. Im just glad it happen to me, and not someone else. This is the first time we had to adjust the dogs medication in the last 7 years.

I sure do, the current shifter assembly is very tired and inadequate. The CAE ultra shifter looks nice, but that's about it. The USRT shift linkage upgrade at 199.00 is decently priced. I am still open to options.

That is different than either - it looks like it is the rod shift moved upward for the 020 box. The CAE shifter is for the 02A box. The USRT linkage kit makes a significant difference, but the biggest difference maker in a sloppy 020 linkage is the orange bushing, plus replacing the ball if worn.

I was not aware it was for the 02A box, I was understanding it was for the 020 http://www.shop.cae-racing.de/index.php?a=8&lang=eng, If was going to go with a 02A I would think about using this shifter from Adrenaline Tuning http://www.adrenalintuning.de/index_preview.php/?page_id=103, To keep my time/cost down this season I would like to stick the current 020. Once I have all the bugs figured out, I maybe interested in switching over to the 02a trans.

Hadn't seen the CAE for the 020 - looks like they do a cable conversion to the 020 box.

The USRT shifter works well, but you will have to fiddle with it to make it work perfectly. I had an issue with the shifter weight hitting one of the links, and that caused a ton of shifting issues until I figured that out (wouldn't stay in 2nd under a fast shift).

If you are hot to swap a trans, the 02a is easy... but the shifter is garbage (HUGE throws). Luckily you can use an 02J 6spd shifter and cables. You will need to swap out the shifter tower (and possibly lower support in trans). You can fleabay a short shift shifter for an 02j for about $65 if you want to go shorter than stock as well.

What do you mean by "lower support in trans"?

I've got an 02a and the shifting was short but an absolute pain to adjust properly. After running it for several years I ordered a new "Relay lever cable carrier" from GAP because I heard that they get sloppy after use. Turns out I had been running a broken relay lever from day one, it was half the length and just bolted to the shifter tower (thats what I get for junk yard parts). I swapped in the new part and now it shifts perfect but the throw is incredibly long. Regardless, I can't believe I dealt with poor shifting that long. The relay lever is prone to break since its flimsy plastic but Gruven Parts makes a metal short throw replacement that I was planning to try out.

I've heard of running the 02j shifter with the 02a but only in hearsay not anyone actually doing it, so if you can elaborate more on what needs to be done and which parts to use, that would be AWESOME.

In addition to the 02a being rock solid, the cable shifters and hydraulic clutch make the whole swap totally worth it over the 020. IMHO

I run the 02J shifter on the 02A box and its a dream. Drop two pins in either end to lock it in place, then adjust the cables to length and it shifts like a dream. On top of that you can build a simple tower to bring it closer to your wheel and call it a day. I shorted the shift rod itself and its a very reasonable force/distance ratio.

The shift tower on the transmission (where the cables hook up to) uses a support that is on the bottom of the trans to keep the loooong shift tower from wobbling about. It's a small plate that has a bushing on the one side. Depending on the year of 02a/02j swapping, you may will need to change to the corresponding 02j lower shift tower support.

John V, I want to say thank you for cutting the grooves in my shock bodies. I will be ordering springs very soon. Do you have a recommendation on what manufacturer to use? I would like to use the longer 16" springs. I have read in some of you other post to stay around 150-175lb, what is your thoughts with the dampeners I have?
