FWD cars need the weight where it matters most. Over the drive wheels.

What type of vehicle? What were the corner weights before you started?

1990 crx, super popular on rally anarchy for suspension travel and long wheel base.
rf 350 lf 360 rr 210 lr 210 kell and i in the car in lbs. i've since been in touch with a really fast fwd drive who likes 60\40 front to back and 50/50 side to side. ill be running hotbits dt2s with 450lbs front and 360 rear. (not 100% on that but test springs on saturday) may relocate front and rear strut locations to get to 0 camber toe on bump/ext. but don't know if im gonna get that hard core yet. wanna get out on stage and thrash about.

60/40 and 50/50 (obviously), is a good start. Are you doing a fuel cell? There really isn't much weight to play with unless you have lots of time and money.

Those spring rates sound high but I am not very experienced with Honda suspension. My rule of thumb these days is to start off soft with the suspension and tune up, not down. Soft suspension has proven to me that it is fast, but not confidence inspiring.

Remember that nice (multi-colored) car you had with that nice engine aus der BRD?
Whatever it was with no crew became about 52/48 F-R with crew in.

And yes those rates are over-the-top, way past the left-field fence insane.

Snidley, here is an aid in understanding the problems of listening to guys saying
"I like___________"

Did you ask: what other weight distributions have you tested? How long were the tests?
What was the difference in s/km? Did you try other balances?

If you ask those kind of question you see subjective "I like___________" are nearly useless without more detail...

Don't worry about shit like this, worry about the insane springs and limited travel stuff you have.

Sounds really high from everything I've ever seen anywhere for gravel setups on civics. I run 260 and 200 I think and softer on ice and snow.
Edit/ I also roll my car to often so maybe find some other advice....just wondering where you got those crazy numbers from? Edit/

Are you going to make it to Cochrane Rally? If its that or relocate your strut towers...your crazy. come out an play!

^ Cosworth has some good advice on fwd cars.

The only reason that I can see adding more weight to non-drive wheels is for better braking. Traction on turn in will also increase, but is usually negated by the added sideways force from the added weight (at least on pavement). Adding weight on the extreme ends of the car will cause it to have a higher polar moment of inertia... basically making it harder to initiate a turn, and then to also correct slides. Think of a heavy wheel tire combo speeding up and slowing down. A lighter one takes less effort.

Most fwd cars are in the 60/40 range, mine is 65/35. 50/50 is if you need both ends of the car to do work (one steer, and one drive). But you really want a slightly rear biased car for pavement pounding, like 55R/45F or so for rwd. But we don't pound no stinking pavement around here!
