Runamuck Rally

Here are some updates pics from yesterday.
some nice boxing in of the interior of rocker sill, awesome reinforcment of control arms with plate, coring the circular holes and seam welding the sides, in the process of remounting the mechanical hand brake so that we can use it when parked, and strut towers re-fabbed and plated to accomodate subaru mounts, and some seam welding.

It's coming along nicely.

The beautiful fab stuff all done by Custom Metalcraft in Port Coquitlam, BC.

You didn't raise the strut tower at all?

Hows your experience been with them?
I am assuming they are just solid bushings, ie. more durable.
Compound harder too?

I've been running them for years. Only way to fly. Stiffer than stock and solid and they don't limit the travel of the arm like the poly ones.

They will fail very quickly, my last set of dog bone style stockers lasted a total of 2 rallyx runs.
The current set of audi TT bushings are 2500 road miles, 3 rallyx's, 2 hillclimbs, and a rallysprint old and don't show any signs of abuse.

Good question,
Since I hadn't yet adapted the towers to accomodate the subaru mounts, I couldnt really tell how high it was going to ride with the beautiful shocks you made for me and the new subie mounts. So in the interest of getting things done faster, and hoping to get on a stage we just did it at stock height for now so that we can change it up at a later date. I think I do understand that raising the strut towers allows for better use of droop travel by allowing for more swing of the control arm and reducing the chance of overarticularing CVs

You probably told me at one point how much to add ( I think Josh did too), but I figured I'd like to see how it is once back together. Without seeing how the car is sitting, I'm a little more worried about ground clearance on the oil pan, subframe strenghtening + sump guard as we are running 14" OEM wheels. I have no doubt that the towers will be raised up in the future though once the car is moving on its own power.

If you have the budget (make the budget) upgrade a few other things while you are building

B3 Passat control arms (way stronger off the bat - just a tube welded through the hole and you are golden

Thanks for the suggestion.
The control arms in there now are standard mk3 jetta/golf control arms plated on the top and bottom at the knuckle end, seam welded all around, and tube welded into the hole. (im now a little concerned that they are too strong and my subframe is at risk) Reccommensations and images on how to strengthen the subframe?

I'll defintiely look into the B3 passat control arms for the next set/backup set.

O2A gearbox will have to wait for a little while as it has the 020 built up with a diff and 4.46 final drive r/p.

Subframe needs to be reinforced in two places.

Mostly on the Left (driver's) side where the front control arm bolt are hangs off by itself... The passenger;'s side is not as weak, you will see it is not symmetrical.
