Huh...funny what's considered "stock" as far as modifications go in some forms of racing.

If it was easy it would be boring! We all do it for a challenge of one sort or another. It's not like a Subaru that has been done a thousand times so everyone knows which bit breaks so they change it or adapt it before the first event. I don't want to spend months over engineering it, I want to rally.
As Don as pointed out Radium is going to be on the weekend of 23/24 May. More details will be forthcoming....

So after a few hours of toil, I managed to lose 692lbs off that heavy lump. So it "only" puts me at 3070 before the cage goes in. Oh looks like I may have to redistribute some weight!

Good work.

The great thing about a truck is that the durability is usually light years ahead of a typical car. This means there will be less little stuff that needs to be tweaked or upgraded to make the vehicle last in a rally environment.

Eventually changing to a 2.3L Duratec later on could also help a lot with the weight.

I took the complete interior out, topper, box and spare. It will come down a fraction more with the excess plating, but in going to be adding about 200lbs back for the cage and seats. I'm hoping that the stage weight will be around 3350. For sure changing out the 3.0 to the 2.3 will help a great deal. But I want to run it first to find the weak spots and fix those as opposed to spending the next 6 months trying to fix nonexistent issues.

what about hood,fenders, inner fenders?

i know the hood is way too heavy

have you looked in to moving the radiator in to the rear?

My only limiting factor is money at the moment, I'm already getting fiber bedsides for it. The front will eventually be a one piece, so I'll drop a few pounds there. Still not sure about moving the rad yet. It's definitely a long term project with the odd rally getting in the way!

Some cage work done this weekend, lots of bending, lots of trimming, even more welding and way way too many laughs. Gotta say having a proper bender, a real notching tool and 20 ton press made it so much easier.

with only 3 weeks to go till Radium, I'm a little behind in the "let's build a rally truck from scratch in 2 months" but hey-ho. So the cage is almost finished it's all mocked up and tack welded in, just a few full welds to complete. Now onto the seats, harnesses and the electrical stuff. Here are a couple of pics from this weeks weld fest...
