batteries and mount location

Regarding batteries, i picked up a glass mat battery for the xr. As it's sealed, the way i understand, it doesn't need a box. Am i correct on this?

The next question is regarding mounting. I can't seem to find much regarding rules for where (or where not) to mount a battery. This gma battery is like 10 lbs and smaller than a 6 pack of long necks. I'm inclined to mount it under the dash to save wire on my heavy gauge runs. Anybody see issues with this approach?

Somebody posted corner weights on an Xratty once. Find 'em and put it where it might do sumpin usefull---and leave room for a bigger batt.

For an RA logbooked car running events in the US, a sealed battery does not need to be in a box. It must be mounted securely and the hot terminal insulated. Wet-type batteries DO need to be in a box if they're in the passenger compartment.

For an NRS logbooked car running at RA events, the above applies.

For an NRS logbooked car running at NRS events, the battery needs to be mounted with metal-to-metals mounts regardless of where it is, and it needs to do that AND be in a sealed box if it's been moved, regardless of the battery type. In fact, the battery also has to be a sealed type or "so designed or modified to
prevent acid spillage".

Well Ford cheaped out on the install of the 2,3 Lima turbo... They used the motor exactly as it was hoisted out of Moose-angst...Turbocharger is about right where No3 cylinder is and that puts the nice hot turbine housing rearward of course and its just about yay far from the corner of the battery.. Cooking batteries gets tiresome after a while.

Because I have 6 cylinders in FRONT of my balljoints and I think it would be most beneficial to move as much weight rearward as possible

Some years ago after a divorce here i was back in Sweden staying with a friend for while--he's worked as engine guy in Rally Department from 1958-1980 when they shut down the shop..I was asking him why in ealier photos I see battery moved rear ward and later piccies its in front..
He said "one day one of the guys who hadn't been there long said "Why do we make such a big deal in the broschues about the advantages of FWD and weight over drive wheels in our road cars but then we intentionall take weight off of the drive wheels in the rally cars?"

He said "lotta blushing and mumbling followed" and then they started putting the batteries back....
