Install a turning brake ?
October 26, 2015 05:48PM
Ok I need a good how-to install for a turning brake. It is for the 1998 Forester I built. Has Sti brakes all around.Came out of a 1994 JDM Sti. The Forester has all the Sti. stuff.

Any ideas ? Best parts to use ? Placement ?

Thanks,Randy

Easy.
Depending on how stiff the center diff is..
Stiff center diff: locking rear slows the fronts..

(Now you see the beauty of 2wd!)

I have to run and machine some stuffs but its an easy deal even for guys with near zero fab skills, i can put some piccies up and warn you of the typical pit-falls..

Big Qustion: what center diff do you have and
Is there a limiter in the rear circuit between master and rear caliper?
Often there is.
The Subie caliper piston sizes are very good for gravel in their stock sizing, but usually rears are limited down cause the feds have a FMVSS out rear lock up. They don't want cars to lock rears first so.......

There's enough subie guys here somebody should know without resorting to looking either at the car or (gasp!!!) the service manual..

Photos would be great.

As for the center diff ? Will look into that.

As for the brakes their is this thingy ? I will find out what its job is.

Rear brakes are the bigger, vented JDM stuff used on the Sti in 1994.

When you have time. Thanks

Pretty easy. Take the rear brake circuits AFTER the limiter and go into the handbrake, then back out and split out to the rears.

There was posed a question : is there some stock OEM limiter or proportioning valve?

Is there?

Derp derp. I's sorry---just that grant has made such a point over the years about "telephones are outdated" Email is lame, PMs suck, I don't know what ever is the latest trendy means of communication..

You had some coffee yet? Should I deduce that there is in fact some kind of OEM
"Stock proportioning valve. " somewhere in the system?

I don't hate telephones. I hate talking on cell phones. I prefer email communications as I can easily search and find things two or three or six years later, which happens pretty often. And it requires concise conversation that doesn't wander into the mundane.

The question isn't if there is a stock proportioning valve but what comes out of the stock proportioning valve and where it goes from there.
There are two lines coming out of the stock valve. You need those to come together into one line, into then out of the handbrake master cylinder, then T back into two lines to each rear corner.
