Long life span? Try 1974 thru 1993.....2.7 million +

Even simpler, even easier to Lego together and only one ring and pinion and one diff to dump money into.

Volvo 242. Do it. Cool, lego, strong, power.

I have been drooling over that thing for like two weeks. If it's still around in a few weeks going to start making offers.

As far as money goes, I am hoping to be on-stage at around $10,000 if I buy something, not including personal safety stuff (the dates on my circle track racing helmet and fire suit has expired). I have a good job, no kids and few bills.

Grant hit the nail on the head with life getting in the way, so keep it simple so that when stuff breaks, it doesn't cost and arm and a leg or a ton of time to get back up and running.

/Shameless Plug/

There's a nicely prepped & upgraded BMW "328" in the classifieds for not much more than you were looking to spend. Most of the upgrades are about adding reliability to address BMW weaknesses (oil pump nut, shearing engine mounts, and the dreaded money shift). The car is capable of winning G2 at the regional level, it did at 100AW in 2014 on day two, and finished on the podium on day one...on blown rear shocks (which have been replaced).
