water splashy

Hey guys,

Well i went and signed up for 100 Acre Wood. Never taken the car out of MI before so I figured it'd be fun.

So i've noticed some pretty serious water splashes and I have yet to encounter any water splashes.

Anyone have any advice as far as prepping the car?

I've also heard of people losing gears while going through from the shock on the trans? Do people put the clutch in before impact? or is it just business as usual and hit the gas pedal?

Jim that sounds dubious..
I say the bigger worry is hydroplaning. It has happened. (think about it: you aren't hitting a frozen 4" block of water, you drive ONTO it and if it doesnt move away fast enough, you drive UP it
know what I mean?)
I'd be concerned about protecting the air filter from major wateregress and keeping water out of the inside of the car....I landed hard in some deep puddle up at Lake Superior the year I went there especially on Mandan Road stage...I was intentionally trying to jump some major puddles. I knew the base was hard --cause the puddle were standing water not churned up mud---and it worked mostly but a couple of times landed hard IN the puddle and we blow the little drain hole discs out of the floor and in 0,00001 second there were 2 streams of high pressure water blasting into the car...then sloshing all over.Entire isaide of car was soaked...and then keeping the windshield clear was a major headache in that cold near freezing temp... but we did do 3rd Overall on that stage...best ever national SS result...

Cool. Ya i was told a story about 2nd gear going out somewhere out your way in a PGT Subie. Either way i'll take it into consideration. Since i already treat my trans like a delicate flower i may as well.
I definitely need to do some moving of wiring/ecu stuff and start caulking more.

Now that the car is reasonably together we're going to try turning up the boost a little for this one 7 up to 10lbs or so. the torque is the best difference so far with the turbo on. Ideally we'd be at about 200hp eventually. i have no idea what effects the restrictor has other than it feels much slower than without. but it should be a fun little package!

Plant your right foot and say "fuck it." I'm fairly certain we both got hosed with water and couldn't see out of the windshield from all the fog here for about 30 seconds. Totally worth it.

I think he had turned two pages after the water, so we still had about half a mile to the finish.

But to make up for it, he hooked up the strap to the rear end and pulled us back onto the road himself...didn't have to wait for somebody to stop.

Also, we determined that was caused by some underbody protection that was funneling water through a blown plug right under my feet. We riveted a soda can over it at service, and for the rest of the day I had to move my heel over the plug whenever we went through a puddle.

I slow down for the big ones. I used to just say f-it but the time lost seems like a lower risk move than getting super wet, crashing or breaking stuff. I must be getting old.

What is this restrictor talk? I thought that was only for open cars... G5 need restrictors too? I should brush up on the RA rules again.

I just double checked: restrictors are only needed for open and super production (awd turbo cars).

10.1.F is the section.

We put the turbo back on before LSPR last year so we're Open class now. The 323 is actually AWD.

It's a Garrett GT2560R. It's what the car had before so we stuck with that setup.


The MiataLink ECU is what took a crap on us at LSPR so I replaced it with a Megasquirt which has made a huge difference. We're hoping to actually have it properly tuned for 100 Acre. At SnoDrift a friend of a friend sent us his tune, we fiddled with it an hour before Parc Expose and went with it.
