Air Filter Setups

I'm curious to know what kind of air filter setups you fine folks would recommend and use. I've considered retrofitting OE air boxes with flat element filters and I've also considered building a box to isolate a cone filter. Either way, I want to shield my inlet from as much of the elements and engine heat as possible while still providing good air supply and flow to the suction pipe.

This is something that I have not paid close attention to at service or Parc Expose. I'll try to remember at the next rally. I'd still like to hear your ideas and thoughts on the subject.

Motor swap, so oem box doesn't fit. Cone filter with a shield around it. It could be improved, it will get dirty but cleaning it after each event isn't a terrible idea.

Stock box, stock filter if you have a hot wire MAF... nothing like a slightly over oily filter ruining your event.

If you have a hot-wire MAF, also may want to consider mounting it so the wire runs vertically rather than horizontally to reduce breakage from vibration....

Nissan S14 with an SR20DET and a Z32 MAF. I'm all ready running modified intake plumbing so retrofitting any air box would be simple enough. I have a few different air box setups at my disposal from various Nissans. Shrouding a cone filter shouldn't be any more difficult.

That is a great idea. With the ECU I'm running, I can upgrade to the newer slot/cartridge MAFS (not sure what they're called - see picture below). I suspect they're more robust and would certainly make intake routing easier.
