All i know is BMW claimed 25% from factory with Med case so take that gray space as you will. Certainly a third plate will yeald more ( especially when you mess something up and the diff binds to full welded lol). All I have is form info so all grain of salt.

Really for Rallyx run what ya got as long as it is LSD. hell weld a open one. smooth is fast and the rest is just bullshit talk anyways. as long as you got both wheels pushing forward you have got it made. Join your local e30 FB pages and scrounge the junkers. you will find something. I know that pacific northwest has huge e30 following. respect your elders is filmed out there. along with the e30 picnic.

just as long as you beat the xraty's.

And the plural if Xratty is Xratties

Screw it, you guys talked me into it, I am returning the stock rack and purchasing a 1996-2000 Z3 rack. Really had to twist my arm huh?

Be careful people sell them on ebay as "fit z3" but its not a z3 rack, it's just a e36 rack.

Use realoem.com and verify part numbers.

Yeah I figured as much, I purchased it from Amazon and the part said it fit a 1996 Z3, there should be a tag on the rack with a model number right?

There should be a pinion shaft on it sticking out..Twist it to the stop then go the udder way and count turns..
That's the only thing that matters really.

Standard E36 racks are progressive so they are very slow in the center and speed up as you get further out. It's not hugely slow though, even with p/s delete I had no problems at hill climb with a bunch of hairpins. I think it's like 3 turns lock to lock.

I suppose I'd be happy either way, for the price I got it for, a refurbished rack is better than a stock rack with ~260,000 miles on it.

It's been a while, but I have some updates. I bought some Bilstein Sports (used) for a song so I am going to run those.. for now. Also, did a whole bunch of subframe work today which was easier than I thought it was going to be but still pretty shitty job over all.

I replaced; Subframe bushings (95a Poly), Differential Mount (75a poly) and the RTABS (delrin) and also replaced my ebrake cables since the subframe was down.

Here look, some pictures:

Ya know, its not some pet peeve i have about BMWs being for whatever size car it is about a full grand-daddy step weaker/thinner/smaller than what I'd like to see for a clubbie car. It's just what they're made for: perfectly smooth and maintained roads..
I think maybe a big U shaped deal welded over the ends of everything that terminates in a bush would be a nice idea....we have seen failures...

And sure would be nice if they put two mounts on the back cover for the diff.

I'm right there with you, I know several companies sell "reinforcement plates" for the rear subframe (exactly where you're talking about) which I may invest in if I have issues (however if I have issues there I may just have to buy another subframe anyway..)

Time will tell on the differential, luckily back plates are cheap an relatively plentiful so meh..

Dude. A hammer and a strip of steel..Hammer your own..

And maybe they have a version of the cover that is less stupid..
I wuz thinking bare so instead of a monstrously YUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE bush, you could fab up a simple double bushed something....

It's certainly a possibility, I know that the e36 (maybe e46) came with a double bushed cover. I do have a mig welder, I might go get some round tube and make some reinforcement brackets for the arms, that shouldn't be to much work and I don't think I'd even have to drop the subframe either.
