I actually never used gaskets on rx7s except for the header. Just clean flanges, flat surfaces & exhaust putty.

So next event the slip exhaust will be the ticket, just need to get my hangers right so I'm not relying on the block to support the weight of a huge swinging mass.

Seen these? super simple, cost a coupla bucks

One on the upstream pipe overlapping the on on the downstream pipe, drop a bolt and an all metal locknut and presto..
When the exhaust is all mooshed to death, you haven't spent a couple of hundred buck for quick release V bands which really don't need to be quick release cause you don't have a spare section of exhaust or a spare gearboxor the skills or the crew with skills to do 11 minute gearbox swaps---sop why quick release..

Howzabout catch and release? How about early release for good behavior?

I have not seen those... and you're right - I don't have a spare exhaust to snap on sad smiley but I did manage to bring a spare v-band so I could re-attach the exhaust after it fell off to finish the day.

I already fixed it with a slip fitting but I'll give that a try when I break the slip setup.

See what's nice with those is even if the joint is banged you still have a chance of working in apart> Big ol nasty U bolts dent things on sip fit joints, dent the outer and the inner and are often impossible to slide out quickly/easily..
Lots of joints that had to come apart often used to be done in some variation of that..I've seen in on the collectors for radial aero engines

Hey regarding suspension question..Have you seen Alex Staidle's build thread?
The stanrad thing since last century sometime on the old steering box equipped, fixed strut-poked-into-the-bottom-forging style strut is swapping the whole 2nd Gen crossmember, steering rack, arms, hubs, brakes etc and simply (!) extending the steering column down

This solves a WHOLE raft of chronic 1st Gen problems---a) everything is whimpy and weak b) steering is good--vague zero on center 12 to 15 turns lock-to-lock worn out steering boxes--which are also weak, aren't cool, c) brakes--the key to happiness d) quickly swappable struts e) all forreally rayher minimal work...and there's enough 2nd Gen stuff around..

The rear of the car also has similar problems: a) weak b) hard to find goodies c) expensive as hell d) upper links a foot too short causing axle movement mid-corner e) limited travel..f) weak

Look at Alex's build..

The interesting thing is, the recirc-ball steering is faster than the 3 turns lock to lock "fast" rack. Steering arms are massively different in length, is part of the puzzle.

Sort of like how the new car I bought technically has 2.5 turns lock to lock steering but the max steering radius is worse than a crew cab pickup. It puts shame to the Volvo badge on the grille. (But then I dip into the big-turbo BOOOOST and stop giving a crap)

I was going to take my FC converted car and de-convert it to FB suspension/steering but keep the FC uprights, and get the good suspension geometry AND the fast steering, but then I just bought another car and now I want to build a poor man's Mk1 Escort...

Yeah the 'lock to lock" things sucks and I've gotten a big stiffy before over say Saginaw 2.5 rack for GHL Omni to use the guts in a Saab 9 Hunnert housing but at the last minute I thunk "less measure rack travel per turn a'fore we rip into this..BOTH had the same I think it was 55mm per turn..(both had the same wheelbase too but 900s turning radius was better---hmmmmm---and they blew more CVs Hmmmmmm

I did compare The Escort for North America's ZF PS to "the 510 of the 00ies" ZF PS..
Xratty....64mm per turn
240.......55mm per turn

And those are an easy swap in..

yeahh... May wanna start another thread for the suspension not to hijack this one like a bus in LA...

too late.

in other words - lets see if I make it sno*drift and my exhaust stays on. It seemed to stay on last sno*drift (winter)... if not I'm welding the whole thing together as 1 piece lol.
