Moving from 3 acres to less than a third of one sucks the big one. Im running out of room and the HOA is going to be up my ass this summer, so I need to downsize. The plan is to strip, hack and keep spares from one of my Merkurs. Ill post up the chassis for free for a couple weeks so purists dont get all wound up. Whats the best way to cut up a chassis?

Some parts are best with a plasma cutters, others with a port-a-band saw, others with an angle grinder, and still others with a Sawzall.

I've done several with just a Sawzall and $30-40 worth of Milwaukee blades.

I'd like to try a big gas cutoff saw with an abrasive wheel, but the rental on that for a day is more than two cars worth of Sawzall blades...

I have my old red 87 XR4 back in my possession. The drivetrain and a bunch of other parts go to the guy I sold it to 17 years ago, but judging from how the underside feels...I think it's going to get the cut-up treatment.

Too bad you werent closer, you could just have mine lol. Not a spot of rust on it sadly.

How would you go about sectioning it? Im thinking cut the roof off, front end, cut across the bottom and then pull it off the jackstands to cut the rest up. Im probably horribly overthinking this haha. Ill have a plasma cutter and sawzall to get it done. Thanks for the input!

You could use an axe, works great once you get a tear started. It's the most fun you'll have with a hoser solution!

Danny, that was the saddest ending I have ever seen for a scirocco. Almost shed a tear for the old girl.
