I'm in Chicago. Who builds quality cages within a reasonable distance from me? Wasn't there a guy near Missouri?

You're probably thinking of Izzy's Custom Cages/Metal Shop down in St. Louis area. Thompson Racing Fabrication up in the Mitten is another that I've heard/seen does good quality work, probably equidistant from you compared to St. Louis.

Late as all hell, but Greg Droz (the guy who runs the North America Rally page on Fcool smiley is based in Chicago and does cages. Don't know his work, but I know that he does it.

I can HIGHLY recommend Adam Brock who's in Ohio, but does mobile work if you get on his schedule (he came to TX and did two cars for us).

I want to plus Juan Hundred this recommendation for Adam Brock..
Very good work and very reasonable prices...Plus he's smart enough to understand about doing some things at cage time that are sensible for the long time life of the car, rather than later when something has torn and then needs to be repaired and then done.. Better in the first place a little extra work than skipping it because budget and then paying for REPAIR and the little extra plate/weldie weld.

Thompson Racing Fabrication is in Cedar MI, near Traverse City. (734) 344-9307.
I have crewed for him for a while and have seen lots of his builds, and he has done some updates on my cage. I have seen him dive into cars that he built after they crashed just to see how how his cages held up. I have seen a number of his cars after they crashed and never seen a failed cage. He is honest, he is good, and he has been deeply involved in rally for a number of years.
Best of luck.

Came to recommend Adam who was a rallycrosser with us for a long time before he bit the stage bug. He's got a whole mobile fab shop that he works out of, pretty trick.

Last I heard he was thinking of jumping into a Volvo 240... hmm...

Highly doubt it... he's still in the building phase judging by the many notes taped to the car, and I heard stories about what he had been doing on the gravel "test stage"
