Pedal box reservoirs location
October 11, 2020 11:01AM
I tried searching for an answer here and other places but without a success.

My floor mounted pedal box reservoirs will sit in the lowest part of the whole braking system and will be installed directly on the master cylinders (below calipers, lines, connections).

In my opinion this should not cause any ill effects but at the same time most cars have the reservoirs mounted remotely in a higher location (under dashboard, cage, etc).

Is this purely to make maintenance easier or are there other reasons?

In a perfect world, what you want to do will work. That is until you open the system, then the fluid "above" the mc will fill the the lowest point (reservoir). It will also be a pain to bleed.

Running tygon hose to remote reservoirs mounted up high will alleviate a lot of headaches and issues.

That was my thought. In my case system will be open only while bleeding but always under pressure. The first 1'-2' will be a braided line so I can always raise it up for initial bleeding or master replacement.

You may also need to run 2lb pressure valves in the lines, if you have issues with the calipers over-retracting.

If anything I will go with padknock springs. But that's a good reason to go with external reservoirs.
