I have lost tons of time at events with blowing off turbo hose. You are nuts not to get proper bolt type. Fisheries Supply, NorthLake in Seattle stocks all sizes at good price.

Even better if you ask me to come and I get you account price.

Hey, Sailor-boy,
Hoses that fit and some sorta bump and these AWAB clamps are good enough for works cars in Europe, and that at 30 psi boost.
They ought to be good enough for a paltry 20.

Seriously, get proper clamps man. Last year Gorman wasn't fun at all. I stopped 4 times in one stage to mess with a stripped/striping AWAB. Apparently you can not tighten and losen them too often, that was the one and only AWAB I have used in the engine all the rest were the other kind I have bought from Freightliner.

I have to add that the Ruskies have fabricated the turbo outlet but forgot to put the bump at the end of the pipe. It was a big contributing factor to my demise. So no bump was allowing the coupler to slip out, the AWAB was pulling out with the coupling, I thing I screwed it up more when I tightened the hell out of it. After that it was all down hill.

We had around 27 AWAB style clamps in an attempt to keep our turbo hose from blowing on the Audi. They'd give at around 25-27 lbs so we ran around 23 with only one time did it ever blow. The problem is, that Brian built the motor to be able to handle 35 to 40. Brian Moody is making a new system that the limiting factor will always be the engine and turbo charger. I'll post pics when done and patented. It's similar to what Per Eklund's Saab 9-3 Pike's Peak car (42.8 psi) used, but more flexible and easier to use. Though it probably won't be cheap by any means, but it will work.

I would think that clamps for hoses are as important as wheel lugs, or at least close.

When I was sweep at Mt. Trials last summer, a hose or a line came off a certain Lancer. They didn't pull over until there were very visable signs of an engine fire, then it took 2 fire extinguishers, throwing mud on their motor, then some more fire extinguishers from cars that were behind them.

Testament to the importance of good clamps :

Air flow systems ROCK! I use t-bolt clamps on my XR. Cheesy water hose clamps come off way before 30 psi. Like right around 20.

where i work we use large diesel engines and they always have some sort of support to hold the pipes together, similiar to the one in the subaru picture, if they dont they always blow off, my two cents.
