I'm talking more about the crap in the aerosol cans that you get at the hardware store, just to clarify. The two part epoxy stuff is better but I think you're optimistic if you think water can never get between it and the metal. If you apply it over rust my same warnings apply. If you get an air bubble that's a place where moisture can form. If you prepare the metal properly (which is the key when dealing with any kind of bodywork), such as primering the inside of the panel before you fill it with foam then you can have good results.
