Box ratios
April 14, 2008 09:37PM
I'm planning on changing the transmission on the Colt from the KM132 (Colt, D50, Starion) to either a W55 - W58 (Toyota) or possibly to an R154 (although clearance would no doubt be an issue, or an RX7 turbo2 transmission.

Has anyone here had experience using any of these for rally use ?

As far as ratios go, I have no idea of what should be used for rally use...

Who wants to edumacate me a bit on box ratios ?

I've got a Dana 30 in the back, so there's alot of ratios available there.

Thanks !

Nobody wants to TRY to educate you.
You need to make some effort yourself.
Go read and print out all those Ford Motorsport Manuals.
Look what Ford used for trans ratios and for axle ratios.

Then look at all those weird ass gearboxes and see which is the closest to what your study shows you was typical ratios.

Then go stick a BorgWarner T5 box with the gearset that has 2.95 first gear and call it good.

YOU MUST BEGIN TRYING TO MAKE EFFORTS TO EDUCATE YOURSELF.
A complete education is right in those manuals: 20 years of evolution of rally prep.
Learn to compare and contrast, see what is same one car brand to the next, what is different.

Hey Mark...

The gear boxes would fit either the g63, g64 or the g54 depending on narrow or wide block varient. There's a guy on another forum that's casting bellhousings for RWD g63's and g64's. The drift and 1/4 mile guys are stuffing them into 240's (Nissans), Starions, etc... there's a few 1970's Colts that have been and are currently being done.
