Mark, Thanks for the interest. I'm afraid that RTN will get away from me this time- there's just so much to do and I just don't think I can make it in the time left, so Rally WV might be a more reasonable goal...plus this car would work so much better on gravel. Anyway, we'll see.

What a cool car. I'm not sure if we never got these in canada or if I'm just too young to remember them. Looks bad-ass though!
What does it weigh?

A rather rude thought. You could E-bay one of the Twin Masters and probably get enough to buy a more modern odo. They look to be the earlier metal case units that the vintage rally guys in Europe lust after. A friend sold his textured case unit to someone in Belgium for $700 about 5 years ago. Then sell the second one to pay for other upgrades.
Or keep them in place for the real vintage look.
I just did a fast Google search. One site in GB is selling Twinmasters starting at GBP 1000, VG condition GBP 1400. Current $ to pounds is $1.99.I don't know what you paid for the whole car but there might be enough in Twinmasters to make the car free.

The last two Twinmasters on Ebay sold for over $2000 each. Sell them both and you've paid off the Monzilla (perhaps). Or hold on for a couple more years and finance the new rally car.

I know what you mean and I have thought about it, but I just couldn't part with either of the Haldas... they're original and are 100% both working and functional, so they stay for now. I might put one in the Opel at some point.

well, I lost oil pressure trying to drive it just 6 miles to the shop for some cage-work. shit.

Long story short- the cheap-ass temporary oilfilter went and decided to spit it's internals all through the motor. blocked the oil flow and made a mess of the pickup tube. This led to a tear-down which involved rod and main bearings, oil pump, new pick-up tube, and a crank-check just to be certain. The next surprise came from a fun crank in the car and some nice H-beam rods... I'm starting to think Darryl bought this motor from some moonshine runner or something. Motor is back together and with some buttoning up should be ready soon. No more Fram filters, ever. I should know better, but I didn't. oi vey.

I took the Cibie lights apart and I don't think they can be saved.

<Frankenstein voice of madness> It's alive, muahhhahhah!

seems to be mechanically solid now, so I can get to making it legal (cage updates)

well, several more months slip by, however the project is back on.

still didn't get decent oil pressure with the new bearings done by a former friend, and his mistake, or my mistake in letting him talk me into him doing it, cost me a crank. Fuck. I find this out waaay after the fact and go get the car after having a really nice Q-jet built by a great guy near here... The car was idling (very nicely) warming up to get it on the trailer and feel good that the car was finally running right, and it sounds like rod knock and my little moment was ruined.

good news is I have an excuse now to spend bucks and have (a pro this time) completely go through the motor the right way, take pics along the way, and see if I can get a few more horses out of it. Would like to get a better cam and maybe AL heads in the deal. Having the motor out allows me to get the body in my shop for a little grindin sandin and paintin. there's two little places on each side near the back corner of the side windows where a quarter-sized place will need a little help, but no rot found so far at all. pleased with that.

uprate the starter tq, powersteering gear leaking, shocks/susp needing work, still have cage work to do, ug. the hardest part is the waiting and the waiting between times I can do anything on it. this last weekend was the first weekend I've got to touch the car at all for 2 months. Work sucks, amen. I've got a couple update pics tomorrow.

merry generic plastic holiday

Love to all,
John

wow, I'm like the poster boy for "buy, don't build... it'll take forever!"

'Version II' stroker motor going in this week- with new crank and pistons it should be north of 400 hp.

..When I finally get the chance to hit a tree- Damnit, I'm gonna hit it hard.

oh who am I kidding, I'll never get this freakin car done.
