oh oh - the sickness spreads - need some construction help in NH
July 08, 2008 11:02PM
Hi All:

I've got a couple of crazy Audi entusiastas hell bent on building a rally car - in the next 60 days!! yawning smiley

Here's what they need to git 'er done - I'm hoping there's someone in the newd hampster area that might be able to offer some resistance:
1. I've read and heard about the death ray - how does one get a hold of said instrument?
2. Anyone have a rotiserie that could be rented/borrowed before we go make one out of a couple of engine stands?
3. Anyone out there build an Audi 90? What did you do with the whold heater core, blower assembly?

JVL - drop me a line, you may have another customer for sooper bitching name brand boingers...

Thanks all y'all...

We ask whoever has it to send it.
Mike White had it, it went to the Saab guys , then the the Wimpeys

Not locally, mine made it back to Seattle.

Here's the beauty of it, the early Audi 90 (1988) is exactly like what you built for me!

On another note, the seals on the bodies that keep the inserts tight, I assume those are replaceable - you got some magic part # for them? I'm starting to see a little lateral flex that I'd like to clean up.

I've got a "death trap" engine stand rotiserie. It doesn't meet RA noobie guidelines, which state that new drivers must write Lance a 7 figure check, but if a team were planning to run in Canada.........

I just used a heat gun, solvents, putty knives and elbow grease. It might take 60 days to find out who has the death ray.

You think I don't have a spare?
Somebody with Mike Whites Instant message, text address or what ever foooofy means of expensive communication is the latest fad, shoot him a message, he borrowed it, he must keep track and return or send it onward as required.

Last I knew, White Supremisist Mike was in Houston, drinking cactus juice and sniffing around for some entertainment.

Yeah el blanco is on a Microshaft sponsored tequila binge. Don't expect to hear from him for a few weeks. smiling smiley

I thought he sent it to some Wimpeys, but I'm probably wrong. I don't think he's had it for the better part of a year.

'84 Scirocco Rally car... '88 90q project

Vittorio...

Incase they're curious about skidplate mounts... they can checkout how I did mine on my 90q...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dtompsett/sets/72157594178782417/detail/

I modified my original front bar after I made it. Re-drilled the holes to bring the skidplate up another 1/2" or so. Tucks it right up to the edge of the bumper.

This was just for TSD and course-car abuse. The plate needs to be thicker, and if mounting to the subframe, the subframe really needs a second 'skin' put over it to thicken the steel.

Doug! Sweet...actually these guys have used a very similar approach - although I like the additional triangulation gusset to the rail - probably a needed addition for frontal impact...or was that a bottle in front of me..

Will you be coming to Defi? So far, 3 possibly 4 Audi's...

Nope... don't expect to make it to Defi... either as service crew or as a competitor. Looks like I'll be co-driving at a regional rally in August, but don't have the money or time to run the Scirocco, and I haven't touched the Audi in over a year.

Also doesn't help that I've moved 450km from my father's house to Northern Ontario to work, got married, and have a baby on the way (coming in mid-september!). No where to work on my cars right now, and living on a $25/wk allowance for 'fun stuff'.

Ahhh, the joys of growing up. We've already agreed that when we buy our first house, it will have a garage so I can atleast bring up a project car and have a place to work on it. May not have $$ to insure it, drive it, or race it... but atleast I can be working on it!
