What, what what!?

Advice like this, from people who do stuff, is so much more useful that people who know stuff... Kinda like when one of my dipshit LeMons teammates dropped our free turbo and bend the compressor wheel, rendering it, we thought, completely useless. One of the other team members, a former turbo engineer said "don't worry, just bend the blades back with some pliers. Mass is conserved, balance is fine, used to do it all the time..."

So, just so this wisdom is actually useful, what part are you bending on these motocross forks? The (small) shaft, or the (big) body?

-Dave

(just bought some Bel Rey waterproof grease today...)

time for a rebuild. going to my local motobike shop tomorrow to see if they carry Bel-Ray Waterproof Grease. seems what a bunch of people are using.

Seals?? they are indeed marked 50mmx58mmx4mm. anyone have a good part number for replacements? are there different manufacturers for those seals? Frick, you said you might have the NAPA partnumber- do you still have it? JVL, do you have a part number i can give my autoparts guy for the DMS seals???

thanks,
-Brian

I usually order something like a Harwal 50 58 04AO (nitrile) seal through Kaman Industrial. About $5 each. Do a google search. Lot's of choices.

And I use any EP rated grease, that is in stock at the local auto parts store.

I don't have a NAPA rearby.

^^ sorry, I found out after the fact that to see those pics, you have to sign-up at dirtyimpreza.com (sorry about that). I emailed the admin and complained about that little technical fact, but to no avail.

I don't have them uploaded anywhere else.

Jon,

That forum software is a complete mess. I registered. When I login I get an error on every page view. I tried resetting my password, but the site doesn't ever actually send the reset email.

these are going to be big....sorry...

Basic 'servicing'.

1) take off suspension. use a heat gun to take off the bolt on the bottom and use an impact gun.

2) yank out the insert and bump stop

3) clean out old grease, inspect bushings (yes, mine need to be replaced)
Also clean out the seal...

4) put in new grease between bushings (I used a big ass flat head screwdriver as a long putty knife)

ok, went to NAPA today. got a tube of valvoline synthetic grease, package says it works on CV Joints--- and most of all Moly fortified.

seals- they looked up the seal. 50x58x4... they found the part number but nothing in the computer. i have been getting that a lot so far, one of the online sites that had it wanted $10 per seal. time to call the Seatle Speed Shop.

Oh no just because i have them on the shelf, don't call.
Surely two or three more hours searching must be better than calling here.

Why would you have seals for 40 & 50mm struts, John? I just can't even think of a reason... ;P

are there any kind of upgrades or options for the bump stops? I don't bottom out very often on these, but when I have, its been HARD.
