Bumpstop source
August 15, 2008 03:11PM
In a previous thread here somewhere, it was mentioned that bumpstops composed of a closed cell urethane would be much better than standard rubber.
My current Hotbits came with rubber. (48mm units with 200mm of travel)

Where would be a good source for some good urethane bumpstops?
If I need to go to the salvage yard, what cars/models would be desirable?

Thanks,
Kent

reach in thru the spring and measure the rod diameter and post it, then i can probably suggest a bump stop.

3 to 3.5" would be good length.

Here's some. I've never used them for Rally before (because I don't rally - just rallycross).

http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/koni-70.34.95.htm

These are obviously made for Konis (which are probably crap for rally), and typically have a rod diameter of 21.75mm. Not sure what the rod diameter is for hotbits.

The damper rod is 22mm in diameter.
I'm aiming to have roughly 1/3 travel droop (~67mm),
2/3 travel compression (~133mm).

Thanks for the assistance.

Hooookay! 200mm travel, good. Ford says to use a 90mm bump stop when you have 200mm, and a 75mm when using 175mm tarmac length inserts so you could start there.
Their's is about 1.5" in diameter. Maybe a bit shorter if you use a larger OD,.

Sorry for the confusion,
I'm not sure what orifice I pulled 200mm out of
but ACTUAL available travel is only 150mm.

So, to revise the numbers:
22mm shaft diameter
1/3 travel droop (~50mm)
2/3 travel compression (~100mm)
(0.090 motion ratio)
