As you know I'm not an engine builder (yet), so the signs of failure for me look like :

1.) Mashed bearing - spun ? (on the big end of the #1 rod)
2.) Loose circlip ? (on #1 piston)
3.) Bit's of metal presumably from mashed bearing which found it's way into the journals and subsequently damaged the other bearings.

Those are things my untrained eyes have found, that I feel may be subject ?

Figure out how the oil flows through the crank. Newer Mitsus have different feeds into the mains going to different bearings.

The other trashed rod bearings are likely not from metal from the smashed bearing. It would have gotten the mains if so.

The problem doesn't appear to be a flaw in the rebuild, so let's not get into a pissing match. It's a rally car. Our team hopes for 5000 miles from engines between rebuilds. Sometimes we get more. Typically we get less.

So, focus back on what caused the problem instead of placing blame.

Skye I appreciate that, but JVL is a big boy and I'm sure he understand the concept of accepting back what he slings around. The bottom line is that he got paid all the money he was asking for, although the payment was late (I had my reasons, and the reasons are moot at this point). So in dealing with my current mechanical problems, the fact that the payment was late (I never picked up my car or motor until I paid the bill) is really irrelavent. Bringing up past payment issues does nothing but confuse the current problems of the build.

Lets deal with results, as opposed to the rest of the crap that has been brought up. I think I should be able to openly communicate and not worry about "Burning what's left of the bridge", don't you think ?

No pissing match is intended, and it isn't necessarily a matter of placing blame but rather accepting accountability for ones workmanship.

I went to the machine shop today and got an opinion, I'll place pictures later of how the loose circlip damaged the cylinder wall and piston. Appearantly a properly installed circlip doesn't just uninstall itself.

So lets deal with this one step at a time, starting with the circlip issue :

You're right I couldn't come down and pick up the car because of my non-Canadian status (awaiting Visa). After my car had been sitting at your place for 3 months, just to have the engine rebuilt... I had a major trust issue with you.

When I dropped the car off, I gave you $600 cash and a handshake (how I like to do business, with honor as opposed to a contract). I didn't even ask you for a receipt.

You gotta ask yourself, if you had anything to do with changing that trusting dynamic ? A change like that doesn't happen for no reason.

If I could have come down to collect the car, and seen the oil pissing out of it - I wouldn't have paid you until it was fixed.

I still have the note you gave the guys that picked up the car for me, that guaranteed that you'd get me my Sparco camlock belts back that went miising form your place. What was sent to me was an incomplete set, that was missing belts.

That was what ? 9 months ago now ?
