CHCA Hill Climb Regs for Rally cars
September 24, 2008 04:06PM
I'd like to try to make a hill climb next year, specifically Lands End, but I'm sort of confused about the car setup safety regs. All the crazy stuff about glass being taped or something and window nets, and such. How much applies to rally cars? My car is RA/NASA legal, is that enough?

No. The construction rules are to RA or NASA spec, with a few exceptions.
All glass needs to be taped or tinted. (Scott Leonard rule. Workers were mad when they had to spend a bunch of time picking up glass when he rolled)

Cat and muffler removal is encouraged for safety of spectators. As are restrictors.

You must have nomex socks and nomex gloves.

Window nets or arm restraints are required. I think all of us use arm restraints. I actually wear mine at stage rallies too as I've gotten used to them.

I think that's the main thing.

Yeah. Some have used packing tape. I used clear vinyl and the residue is still on there.
Just find a local shop that will tint all the windows for $100-150. Way easier and looks cool to boot.

Cool, thanks! I think the fronts'll have to be taped though since Utah says 'NO' to tint. :-S
So the clear vinyl wasn't worth it?

You can get window tint thats 90% light transmission.

I don't think anyone could tell the difference.

Definitely not worth it! The residue left was a nightmare.
I didn't want to tint since all but the front are clear lexan, but now I'll probably go with a clear or really really light tint for next year.

It's called Solar Guard NR UV Clear tint.

It's 90% clear.

Tons of tint shops have 72%. It's essentially clear.

Factory tint is usually in the 35% range to give you an idea....
