Welding Guns
October 14, 2008 11:33AM
Hi All,

I have been welding on my car and have a slight issue with my welding gun or maybe just with my welding.

I am using a Millermatic 210 with the standard gun that it came with. I keep finding that I am struggling to get the tip into tight spots and I am wondering if there is a smaller tip (the copper thing).

A friend suggested getting a Tweco gun because they have smaller tips and a flexible end available. I priced it locally and it was almost $600 by the time it was all done.

Any ideas or suggestions? Do I just need to be a better welder?

Thanks
Brad

There are different diameter tips for the Miller gun. Mine came with some that were nearly the same dia from the base to the tip. I had to order spome that were about 50% smaller on the tip. I'll look to see if I still have the part number.

I'd suggest trying another vendor then. I have a 20+ year old Airco (ESAcool smiley MIG welder and when the stock cable/gun went to hell I ordered a custom-fitment Tweco gun. It had to be built at the factory (with my own personal part number!) to fit my ESAB as they had no direct fitment. It cost me about $160, took two weeks to get.

Radnor 64002921 is the part number for the smaller tips for a 210 Miller.

Thanks Guys,

I am going to order some of the tips you suggested. I also started looking on line and I found the same gun set up for about half what I was quoted.

Thanks
Brad

I'm in the welding distribution business, and also have a MM 210. I use the original M25 gun with a tapered nozzle. You can also find tapered tips for that as well, although I use a regular tip. Insist on direct miller replacements, they may cost a little more, but I trust their specs more. Tweco makes a more tapered nozzle, very tapered in fact, but their guns can be bulky. I wouldn't run a tweco on mine, just preference, I would go with a Bernard (owned by ITW, who owns Miller, Hobart, etc). They make a rotatable neck, very tapered consumable, in a smaller, less bulky gun.

Have fun

Thanks Cable,

I have always used the Miller consumables, with excellent results. Can you sell me the Bernard gun with the narrow tip?

Thanks

Yep, I'd be glad to. When I go in to work Mon, I'll see what we can do price wise and let you know. I don't remember off the top of my head what one of those guns cost, but it will be cheaper than a Tweco and I'm sure you'd like it better. I'll post what I come up with.
