Brake disc question

What are your opinions on running slotted rotors on the front? Has anyone had problems with dirt or mud fouling the slots?

Thanks, Robert.

Done right the slots should be a pathway for the pads to squeegee the muck outwards and away from the working surface.
Worked on bikes and we even slotted the shoes and even drilled the drumto let shit go somewhere other than imbed in the friction material.

John, You wouldn't worry about rocks getting stuck in the slots and chewing up the pads?

I ran slotted disk with no issues.

Circumstantial...

But I've cracked a total of 4 rotors in my rally career. 3 of them were on my VW and were slotted. They cracked right along the slots.

I use plain ol' cast iron vented rotors now.

Holes eat pads FAST in mud. Whiteman tried 'em once on his VW and they cracked from the holes, too. I even replaced the rear rotor on my KTM with a solid rotor for mud riding after eating a set of pads in one mud ride, and put my swiss cheese rotor on my motard wheel.

YMMV.

Thanks Lurch. None of the other rally car that I have worked on have had drilled or slotted rotors. Either way I will have the rotors cryo treated.

Unless you're getting a hell of a deal on cryo, I'd just use the money and get a second set of rotors.

+1,000,000

it's not worth it....

serious pads are going to wear through rotors....

and most times that rotors crack in a rally application is because of them being SUPER hot, and getting rapidly cooled (rally applications).

I've rallied on straight out of the box Brembo replacement rotors, pricing is good, and i've had them last me through 2 sets of brake pads.
