This RX7 needs a gearbox. I have located a place to get a dogbox to better handle the power. Any pros or cons you can list. Is it stronger? Do they all need to be rebuilt every 2 to 3 races?

Pros

Quicker shifting
Usually made beefier because it is made for competition

Cons

Expensive to rebuild

Expensive

Dogboxes do not need to be rebuilt every 2 to 3 rallies. They are not nearly that fragile. What happens is the dogs wear from all the crash shifting. The sliders bang into the dogs gradually (or not so gradually if you shift like Pat Richard) rounding them off. Once they get rounded off enough they won't hold the gear and the gearbox will pop out of gear when you lift off the throttle. How quickly the dogs round off depends on how much of an animal you are when you shift. You should be able to go a season or two of a lot of rallies before you need to replace worn dogs. Again, depends on the quality of the gearset and how hard you are on the equipment. It's expensive because you have to replace the whole gear (the dog teeth are attatched to the gear, duh) and the slider. We just replaced 4th and 5th gears in Dave Hintz's Holinger dogbox because they were the most worn. They weren't popping out of gear yet, actually 5th popped out once, but it was preventative maintenance at a convenient time. Each gear was like $480 each but I don't remember if that was Australian dollars or US dollars.
Dogboxes are also stronger and create less frictional losses because they usually also have straight cut gears.

Yeah but doesn't Dave Hintz has all sorts of self control and stuff? And doesn't his brother have braces? Man Rick is the oldest looking teenager I have ever met.

Man

I remember that great feeling of getting my braces off, getting my liscence, and finally getting my smooth sexy deep voice. Maybe his dad Dave will let him race for his 16th
