Someone found a replacement for the stock getrag dogleg transmission, or Finns don't have the dogleg rule. I don't know which.

So the shift pattern is arranged like this then. Because this is dog leg. If it's just a normal shift pattern with reverse moved to the left of 1st then it is perfectly legal.

Just where did you come up with the idea that they did, and what would that have to do with OUR GpF rules?

Duh. It doesn't even say you can't have dogleg. As Paddy says, no sequential. Which if I recall Rally America rules also forbid anyhow.

Finnish Group F 3.2.2
1.1.1 Gearbox is free except as follows
- Original place must be kept (Note! bodywork changes are not allowed)
- Only mechanical transmission that the driver controls mechanically, is
allowed
- Gear pattern must be traditional H –pattern
- Only max. 5 gears forward is allowed. If more gears are homologated,
those must be removed.
- Reverse gear must be functional
- Necessary bodywork changes in order to install gear shift lever are
allowed

isnt it that usually the "traditional H-patern" doesnt iclude the dogleg? as in there is the dogleg and the H? eventhough they are technically both an H pattern.....

That rule only requires that the gearbox is not sequential. The dogleg is still an H pattern.

Doglegs are legeal they are talking about a sequential box. By your logic 5 speeds are not legal... You have mis understood the rules.

The 190 is the 2.3-16 the 2.3-16 was a GpA homoligations special of the 190 much like the Cossie Escort is a Homologations special of a escort.

Gary Eaton ran PSA diesels in the US to some degree of success in the 1980's 505 Turbo Diesels, Then www.rallyvw.com is running a Mark4 now again with some success, VW has a wide range of parts for the Mk4 TDI as a rally car and have campained the car with some success here and there, you can get really nasty motor bits for the TDI from VW racing and they also have gear kits etc. They have won a few events here and there. The Mk4 TDI or a TDI transplanted into a Mk2 shell would be the simplest rally car today but for fun the M-B might be OK.

I have looked long and hard for a decent priced 2.3-16 and never found one so they must go stright from the loving owners to the crusher.

In the long run reality always wins.

Derek, they really didn't sell an awful lot of them here in Fortress America.
They were smaller that the "normal" mercedes, they had a 4 cylinder and since Mercedes is pitched as a "Snoot-mobile Par excellence" they didn't fit the bill to well.
It is a Cosworth designed and cast head on the 2.3 and the motors are trucklike and make Volvo motors look like puny Hondas.

Suspension looks nearly identical to Sierra/Xratty, they could well do good for cheap to get into, but goddam what would a fender cost???

well, my question was based on the way my peeps and i talk, we mention either a dogleg or an H patern but then again technically the dogleg IS an H..... it's like saying VIN number....... irritating!

MD and PSA have been competing with this diesel thing for, forever! they basically both make the bestest D engines. now everyone is going to think that Diesel is an Audi invention but fuck'em. like i mentioned in my post on tow vehicles, my 307 2.2HDI in europe is the best diesel engine i have ever driven. Renault also makes a 150HP fourbanger. that's just about all i know about that engine but as the froggeaters' world is getting closer to the rawfisheaters we could see it in some kind of nissan. especially since the next clio might also wear a nissan badge and be imported.

oh, and in portugal and i think spain, there is a TDI championship. but it's mostly skoda fabias (vw's 1.8) and opel corsas (GM 1.9) that battle it out.
