Buying a car from Canada

Well I found out that if you're bringing in a car from Canada to the US and it's over 25 years old, all you need is a bill of sale to cross the boarder. They didn't even care about a trip permit as the car in question had tabs good through Sept. Nor did they care about the Alberta plates. Or anything else for that matter. Now will see what happens with DOT.
