I have a sidedraft manifold for a VW 8v now, and some nice 48mm throttle bodies to go with it.

HHHhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm. Sound like the foundation for some funsies!

Should be fun with those 13:1 pistons I picked up earlier this month. Cam selection comes next.

Pics or ban!

Are they flat-tops?

Some reference info: http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/

Kick. Ass.

'86-95 is within 1/4" of the right width assuming 2wd and 4wd are the same widths.

Thanks Chris!

man apparently people totally missed me posting that on page one, and take a look one post up from yours about the 2wd/4x4=not the same width.

I got what you were saying but thought that link had some good info and pictures. Even if only to identify what you DON'T want.

Pete it is only sorta helpful to you because all those axles are 6 bolt but it is still a good primer for helping to figure out what has what with some axle width numbers.

Don't know about pre-Tacos but the WMS to WMS on my 02 2wd Taco 7.5" is 59.5" and the 4wd/prerunner 8" is 60.75" from the best sources I can find. So for Tacos at least 2wd and 4wd are pretty close.

Here is a little primer for 95.5-2004 Tacomas.

All 4wd got 8" 6 lug axles

All 2wd prerunners (same suspension/frame as 4wd -the front diff) got 8" 6 lug axles.

95.5-2000 non prerunner 2wd v6 got the 8" 5lug

2001-2004 S runner (sporty slightly lowered thing with v6) 8" 5 lug

By engine

2.4 4cyl 2rz all 7.5" 5 lug

2.7 4cyl 3rz all 8" 6 lug

3.4 6cyl 5vz 4wd 8" 6 lug

3.4 6cyl 5vz 2wd prerunner 8" 6 lug

3.4 6cyl 5vz 2wd "non prerunner" 8" 5 lug 1995.5-2000

3.4 6cyl 5vz 2wd S Runner 8" 5 lug 2001-2004

The phrase "1st gen" applies to all Tacos from 95.5-2004

"second gen" is 2005 and up and they are a fuck ton wider than 1st gen Tacomas.

I'm gonna have to start looking into things. Seems that the one tire fire from my 747 turbo k-car might benefit from something along these lines, and make the car so much more fun.

Is that just welding up the old holes, re-drilling the new holes (for 14mm studs, I assume) and then squaring/true-ing the mounting surface, and trimming the hub circle to fit?

Well, its weld, the clean the weld off and kiss front to leave a shoulder for disc location, then with a left hand toll holder kiss the backside down to there's a flat surface for the head of the stud, so straight in for a while then 45* to blend.

Looked at side view the axle looks kinda like a trumpet with a flat rim.
When we reduce rom OD we're down into where the flare part of the trumpet is FAT so we need to make that go in straight deeper.
You can do this on the back side fairly quick and easy with a good lather and a good selection of holders:

Then we welded a centering ring with generous OD to turn for hub location, and just turned that till it was true and right OD.

Then over to the mill for the bolt circle..

This is for James in Nebraska's 240 that all the parts are finally in hand---almost.
