Personally, I don't think the 1/2 laterals fit all that well. The top bend could be a bit further forward, the bar a bit lower and then the windshield bar would be in the correct place, as well as the A pillar support bar.

um ok so the car being an egg you get too options bend lower on the window and lose about 2.5 inches of head room or go back and have a less room to get in.
I get 4 inches off the bend for the side so I dont see why you have to make statments like I am wrong? not ask what I was thinking it bullshit!

Gene sorry but you have done this several times to me and I get mad but
I dont know if its just the way you write stuff but im not stupid and I would be
to awser why I did something before saying what I do is flat wrong. there is
nothing wrong with the cage so far about tech there is tons of head room
if you dont know me im 6'5 270 I'm just trying to make as much room as I can

First off you should learn to read..I didn't say you were wrong, I didn't say it in a negative way.

Dropping the bar to match the door and moving the bend forward doesn't lose headroom. It does put the windshield bar in the proper location which then puts the A pillar support where it's supposed to be and not way back in the opening. Don't take it personal, it isn't. You're posting that the bends are perfect, they're not and many people see stuff like that and then copy it. Chill out dude. My job is to keep cage construction on a fairly narrow, consistant path. You're straying off that path with those 1/2 laterals.

I actually agree with Gene on this one. You are actually losing head room by bringing the front bar back 3"s. If your 6'5" then a small bend at the back to get the lateral half closer to the b pillar would also help with head room. The 2.5" up front doesnt help with getting in and out when the shell of the car is lower then the cage. The head room needed is at the back of the cage not the front.

Good build so far. It does suck to think about throwing away 15' of tubing that cant even get worked in as a shorter piece later . But by redoing the lateral half I think you will be happier with the roof V and A pillar support in regards to head room. my 02.

no the program worked perfect for me not that my shit was.

can we put 3 bends in the front latteral because the door is one slow ark.
maybe the photos looks worce because it fits tight it is far back but the window
bar will butt the window reinforcment and the line of sight is right on the piller.

they have nothing to do with anything but the side bars so what the big
deal.

The A pillar part is good, but (just a tip ...if the bar was back a wee bit at the floor mount it would be easier to get a complete weld around it to the plate). That forward bend could be about (looking at pics ...) where the left corner of your tool box lid was touching. You lose no room and everything would be in alignment.

Now I wouldn't care if there was a slight bend in the middle of that 1/2 lateral, I know the opening is curved and I've done a Focus cage.

And I'm not saying the bars have to be tossed!!! I think thoughful placement of the forward bars will make it workable. Quit welding for a bit and give me a little thinking time.

I'm so lost

on the front bar my thoughts where make a box after most the cage is tacked
in pull it down off the sil weld and then replace tack the box pull it back and
full weld around and then push back too the sil and weld the box down.

I wish the bend was 2 inches forward but not at the window.

I don't want too yell at anyone I just don't want to defend my self I would rather
have a constructive conversation. and explain what my thoughts where and what
could be better next time or what to do to make it work as is.

sooo that being said on the sil bars when it said 100 mm is that the tube needs too be
inside of 100mm completely or the end of it needs to be with in 100mm of center of the bend.
I want to get that as far forward as i can now due to the distance of the bend.

Call...no defending or screaming needed. Easier to talk than to write this stuff back and forth.

Just so everyone knows cage details are worked out amicably. Bars do not need to be tossed.

I'm not here to make life miserable for anyone ('ceptin maybe JV smiling smiley ). Things have to be done right and even then there is substantial risk. Everyone has there own ideas and techniques and I understand that and am willing to look at new stuff..BUT... at the end of the day we can only stray so far from standard accepted techniques for rally cages. We go from minor adjustments to cages being cut out all the way to 'no you can't rally that car'. Often a tough decision to make. It isn't done out of spite, dislike, a superiority complex, power struggle or any other number of wrong reasons. It is simply done to try and keep competitors safe, cars acceptable and organizers secure in their belief they are doing a good thing.

I'm not perfect, have bad days and try never make a unchangable decision without consulting with Hurst, Hocker, Niday and a few other close sources of guidance. I built my first cage in 1975 , coming up thru local dirt track, NASCAR and then SCCA ranks. I hate to claim the title of expert, I'm not, but I do have a good ability to see things and recognize both good and not-so-good ideas.

So when I suggest or request cage or safety corrections don't take it personal. If you want to discuss things I'm always willing. We're in this together and we are each others support system.

Thanks for the soap box,
Gene
