and the next step....

making these go somewhere

I think the creative (custom) dash worked out well

Those gauges ARE going to reflect on the windscreen....front face must be minimum verticle, should be an overhang or sink the gauges in deeper.

Yeah, what JV said. Vertical orientation and/or a hood for the gauges.

Hmm I could bend the whole dash to make it almost vertical... or a little hood for the gauges shouldn't be that hard actually. Couple rivets and a heat gun.

Thanks guys.

No prob..I did mine 100 years ago straight up and down w/ gauges mounted like that and it drove me nuts at night so much I made sure the rheostat worked and would turn the light down way dim on night stages cause there was too much light right in front of my eyes that it makes your pupils close down....Grrrrrrrrr!

needed to know where the defrost vents were gonna be before I could build a hood for the gauges.

Started some wiring

Got into some more wiring

and a little fab... Got the switch panel hinge lined up. Sorry for the crappy pic, in a hurry to get to bed! Also looks like the A4 shifter bucket is the trick to putting an 016 in the 80/90 chassis. Might have done some fiddling with that too winking smiley but need to get some grease and freshen up the shifter before I get too far.

This thing is going to start in the next two weeks or bust.

Also need bullhorn of sorts. There is an extra ouput on the rally intercom that needs to go somewhere..... Frick that reminds me I forgot about the intercom, gonna have to mount that somewhere.

I mounted the intercom on the front cage bar ,it's nice to see what you are doing with it when you are strapped in...

wow... Been a while, finally got a good day in the garage after being perpetually out of town. Finally get home and half the house is in boxes for the move in two weeks. where the car will be shelved until we buy a house.

Chassis wiring is in and has been revised a couple times to get me happy with it. Starter works, fan works, lights work... Horn needs a switch. Ecu is mounted and partially wired, still need to buy ignition coils, just being a cheapskate about it. Not wanting to pay junkyards 40$ for a single ls1 coil when rock auto has em for 30$

I'm not happy with the fuel pumps, gonna re-do the whole shenanigans and put in bulk head fittings in the rear "Firewall". Gotta make a firewall first though.

Going to try and install as much crap as I can to get the car ready to be stored for a couple months while we house shop.

John, the strut mount is soooo close.

The diameter of the hole in the top of the audi strut tower is 51mm (approx, my freaking calipers are down at the install) any way they are the same diameter as the inner diam of the top piece...

Same diameter as the inner diameter of item 1 here

I'm thinking I can wedge a small chunk of wood up into the top of the tower to give a centering piece for a holesaw and just punch out the few needed mm. Seems to be plenty of meat to the tower... Rears will be a little more fun but should be doable as well.

Other updates... hotter than a popcorn fart around here. Saturday is gonna suck working in the sun!

Wow, this looks truly awesome!

Question, it seems like you decided not to cut out the stock seat sliders. Why not?

Fuel lines suck! that took twice as long as it reasonably should have.

Switch and relay panel Version 2 going in tomorrow.
