Finally unloaded the wreck...

I took a week off, then yesterdaty decided to to get it out of the trailer and see what broke/bent...

Not sure what you mean return everything? All I'm sedning is the strut tube and the broken off insert - you don't need anything else, right? (Too late anyway, I'm on my way to the PO).

Sure... cage isn't bent at all, just needs a few hours on the pulling rack! The shell is already made up of 2 or 4 different cars so what's one more (left rear 1/4)!

1st weekend of Feb. Dooable? I know that will depend on what you find, but it looks to me like this one should be OK with a new insert and a little "cleaning up".

John...we almost need a JVAB east...with 3 of us running this stuff now!!

hopefully stuff is fixable and can be sourced in time...but failing which is any of my stuff useable if it becomes a bind?? (assuming i won't be done for perce ofcourse).

I dunno what he got for valving, but I do have 3 inserts here in Toronto if you chose to go with Sierra #'s...

I imagine my valving is similar to Sierra, but I think my inesrts are considerably shorter, so interchangability is very unlikely... John will chime in for sure.

Hardly surprising the insert broke off like that, as far as I can tell we hit a tree whith the right front, while upside down, and barrel rolling! So the force would have fully extended the strut while applying a huge ammount of side force - exactly the worst way to load a strut tube! Plus the sway bar link sheared, the swap bar mount ripped right off (D bracket), and the inner tie rod end sheared after becoming a pretzel! Strengthened Lower Control Arm didn't break, but bent near the ball joint, so both will be replaced (unless I can straighten the arm). Cross member looks OK, but I haven't taken a real close look yet.

John I sent the broken strut yesterday, expect it via USPS in approx 7 days. What's the availability and cost of the insert(s)? I hope my budget can swing two. I'm sure based on the problems getting the originals that this will be the critical path.

Yeah the valving should be very similar but the top mounting is made for the typical Japanese 15mm ID bearing, while Paddy's if for Ford so stop thinging that way Paddy. Get a street car and put them on.

Your inserts were just bad luck that the Circle track place had a newbie take the order. I mean a fax with the valving and the length and then the phone call follow up ought to be enough, and then your rears being sold out and back ordered, well perfect storm eh?

Martin you're going to have to tell me the travel, specifically the length of the shaft sticking out. If you look at the other one it should be marked what the valving is right at the top like 350/130. If I have the length and the valving and deposit, I can order the things before the crashed stuff arrives and save a week that way.

Depending on how cold it is it might be better to use standard road car stuff.
When I went it was minus 40 and even with road car junk the oil was toooooooooo thick.

So you want me to measure what's sticking out... from the top of the strut tube to where _exactly_?

How much deposit? How much are the inserts? How much for a spare strut tube?
I need to know prices before I know what I can commit to.
I obvioulsy MUST have one strut insert, so if you tell me how much to send for the deposit for that I'll get it on the way.

It hsn't bee too cold the last couple of years... -10 to -20 I'd guess. The problem with stock shit is the lack of travel and ride height. I've got lots of it I could use, but none that I want to use.

Well I should and I will in future.

and I need to know Travel, man, how much the 10mm shaft sticking out of the 40mm body, but as you have bump rubbers inside when its assembled you have to whip it apart. Should anyway to check out if you did naughty things to that side as well.

Yeah well you may want to think about springs at a minimum. Gotta get some weight shift.

I can't remmeber the OA lengths... forgot the paper in my work pants :-(

I know it's only money... I want all of it (2 inserts and a spare tube), just trying to figure out how to afford it! hmmm.. $235 x 2 = $470 + $110 = $580 + clean up slightly damage tube + shipping.... approx $700? I'll re-check my bank accounts :-) What's the best way to send you money?

I think I'll send you the money to cover two inserts now. What's your paypal ID?
Then you can get these ordered (when i supply the missing info... duh!). We'll see to make sure that he tube I sent is re-useable, then I'll decide on the rest. When is the next batch of tubes scheduled to be made? Obviously teh tube isn't so important as it's for a spare so I'll probably spread out teh expense on this, at least until after Christmas.

BTW... I currently have 300lb 12" fronts and 175lb 12" rears (both with helpers), what would you recommend for the snow?
