Thanks, man.
Folks Jason is there asking the right questions, and we should have some answers pretty soon.
This should also be good news for those with DMS who need a real world priced replacement insert.

Also, the DMS "50mm" use a 46mm piston. Curious coincidence that....

We've already confirmed we can interchange the actual piston head, shims, in both 40s and 50s....and the guy I bet a nickle we could did it. Works fine, no insane DMS prices.

I took this pic just after they shut the lights off. The top is all fat and intended to be turned down to whatever you need. They said the housing will be shipped with the bottom thirdt uncoated (raw steel) to make welding on the ears simple. 46mm ID, 50mm OD. Rough quote "yeah they're the same size as DMS".

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

Spring 2012 availability sucks.... I need something for 1st weekend in Feb :-(

Maye they'll make inserst available sooner... the've probably been available in Europe for years so it's liley just a matter of knowing the right part number.

It is nice to see all the different travel and valving variations.

Nope. It's a new product. It would be much smaller news if it was just a new import.

Again let us hope the flexibility they have been kind enough to allow holds for these.

For example: we seem to have survived pretty good with 190mm travel front struts in Subies, VWs, Misterbitchis, All Trac, GTX .
190mm is about 7.5"

210mm travel has been a nice thing for say Volvo fronts, Subie rear, Sentra rear....210 is 8.27"

Harrumph.

The valvings shown fall between the direction things have been progressing.

Harr ar ummmph.

So do we go down a 1/2 " in fronts, of chance going up a half inch?

Let's see how it goes.

And Anders, it doesn't LOOK an different inside than anything before..
Rumors are that eventually there may be an adjustable option....

Hope they maintain the fixed option, too.

Yeah, that's because DMS originally used Bilstein internals, though they make their own these days.

I was told there that the desire is to make adjustable available, and retrofit-able. (As in, send it back in, they upgrade you to adjustable and send it back.)

Like many things, it depends on volume and reaction and so on. But you're right, it's good that is what they _want_ to do.

Just so the rally community knows, one of the -other- guys at the Bilstein booth said that this was a "secret" project. The motorsports department was nearing their fiscal year and had some funds left over (AMAZING). One of the senior guys that had been pestered to no end by JVAB and apparently a couple others decided to reintroduce these dampers. Like Anders said, they were supposed to be a replacement for the old 50mm items, and I was told they have some minor changes that would allow updating them to adjustable or double adjustable which would require some new parts that haven't yet been designed.

So, thanks to John for pestering Bilstein for these. I'm excited about them and expect to have them on our Open Light car in addition to the next car we're building.

Just so the rally community knows, it was Bilstein engineer Brett Norgaard who originally called me since evidently I do such a good job pushing a LOT of Bilstein based struts. He was assigned to do a study to see if there was enough demand for them to bother bringing them in----which is a little funny when all it takes is a couple of keystrokes to order them ---or whatever it is that I could and can pick up the phone and order anytime out of Sweden....
I only called back maybe 3-5 times since I was told "check back in in a few months"....
Just so the rally community knows.

Now lets cross the fingers we can get these in those lengths of body and tube we need for all those blue Subies.

While it's completely excessive for it, what are the odds that the seals and whatnot would be livable for street applications?
