Ended up at Multi-craft plastics today for work. We were using sheets of 6mm polygem to cover a pergola. While I was there I asked him if they were similar to Tap and the guys just laughed. Told me that tap is 80% walk ins and that carried anything they would and bet me it would be quite a bit cheaper. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Always nice having (cheaper) options.

I suggest spending the extra to get uhmwpe for the underbody, that stuff takes a serious beating.

I've got about half a sheet of UHMW in black left over from doing the underbody on the GTX. PM me if you are interested.

Enough progress last night to even take a few pics.

First a pic of a nicely painted modified Dana 30 rear axle:

Ohhhh, ahh. I actually think it came out pretty good and I am liking the color as well. Feels good to see something done.

Then we moved on to new tasks. Yay! I had given my m46 away when I pulled it, forgetting that we would need it to get the factory alignment for our motor mounts, so I borrowed a tranny from a local volvophile. We mounted the tranny to the dummy block and then set about making a jig to hold the block. Some steel rod laying around the shop worked nicely.

Also in the pic you can see the plates we will use for the new mounts. The jig welds to the chassis rail, but bolts to the block, so it would be possible to send this out to others in the future, if need be. Clearance looks good on the exhaust side. Need to see if the non-ac powerstreering bracket I have will clear the new plate but that is the biggest snag we are working through at the moment. Wish us luck.

Forgot to mention one of our larger discoveries made with the motor mounts. Oil filter is greatly in the way. so much so that it was very easy to say, "well, looks like we're using a remote filter." Problem solved.

Shoulda planned that all along, its a shit location and do it and presto easy access. Find Kevin Hawkinsons nice piccies of that operation. Stuff is cheap too, cheap...

The 740 filter/oil-cooler adapter moves the filter about 7in further back. It allows you to remove the filter without getting oil all over the cross member. If you have the 740 one, then the 240 turbo sandwich plate might do the trick. No need to spend $$ on something new when you can junk yard one for $5 (maybe even with a cooler attached!).

Stay the course...7" father under the manifold, over the engine mounts.
Look first.
The Perma cool block off is under 15 and the DUAL inlet/dual outlet is around 27.
Dual inlet/dual outlet means you can place this behind the Pass side headlight, easy location and use the extra outlet to feed the turbo nice fresh cool oil....
And the extra port gets a reducer bushing where a T goes for the Volvo combined idiot light sender/oil pressure sender and oil temp...

Steady!

I like John's idea. Moving the oil filter to a more accessible location will probably mean that you can keep the skid plate on when changing fluids. If you use the 740 adapters, you would get oil all over the place.

We are now woking on the engine and transmission mounts. Also looking at plating the front suspension turrets.

They're already doubled. Look at them.

Thats what I wanted to hear John. We noticed they were doubled up but were pondering a bit more meat in there. We were thinking that might be overkill be if we were to do it, the time was now. We will just skip it. the brace I will be using also uses at least two, if not all three of those bolts, further transferring those suspension loads.
