Just watched the video. That was crazy after the hail started. It sounded like the car would just spin the tires under any kind of throttle. If that was the case that had to be.. uh.. reassuring. smiling smiley

But anyways, congrats and that was a nice bit of driving.

Yep, wheel spin under hard acceleration, wheel lockup easily under braking, and the damn thing wouldn't turn so I had to very gently handbrake all the tight stuff above tree line...glad it started life as a rally car!

And to top it off - bonehead move on my part - I forgot to turn on the center diff at the startline so ran the whole thing with an open center which probably allowed wheelspin to be worse than it should have.

I spied with my eye the PPIHC Evo in GRM with a little pic and blurb.

Any chance of pics of said article? I don't get GRM.

The magazine is at home and I'm at work, but I can get you a scan (I think, never actually tried my scanner) of it if you'd like.

It's a piece on the PPIHC and I haven't read the full article, and what I did see is a pic of your car with some blurb saying something like "You'd think AWD would help, but with the sleet Kern thought he lost over a minute".

That'd be sweet if you have time. smiling smiley

AWD probably did help...by my choice of full slicks pretty much nullified any advantage (felt if the top 3 guys were on pre-heated slicks, I had to use them to have any chance of reeling them in). Not sure if it was mentioned, but cars 1-3 in the class had pretty much clean roads or the wet weather had just started rolling in, whereas I got about 1 mile of dry road before the rain started, and those who followed me had a wet road the whole way up. After 6 or 8 cars, the weather started clearing for a bit, then fog rolled in and they had to hold the start for over an hour.

Okay, I'm up in the dormer trying to scan that article and I found out after some Googling that upgrading my Mac OS back whenever means I can no longer scan from the POS HP printer/scanner we have.

I'll try and remember to take it into work where I know my boss can scan, but you might be better off hitting up whatever book stores are still extant to get a copy rather than relying on my memory.

The article is short and mainly talks about Loeb, you just have a pic of you driving in the shit and a blurb which verbatim is:

David Kern should have had an advantage in the TIme Attack classes [sic?] thanks to his all-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Evo, but he had to endure even worse weather. He figures the sleet cost him at least a minute.

Thanks. Sorta timely bump as the car is going to be re-purposed back to gravel spec for hillclimbs. I'll have to get off my ass and take some pics.

Wait, not sure if you caught on that I've been out of the loop the past 9 months and living under a rock from the Rally world. In fact this is probably the 1st time I've gone trolling on any Rally site since last March.

But the original Evo is going back to it's gravel glory days? Does that mean that the new one is will be for PPIHC? I figured it was the other way around. Or... maybe with my non experienced eyes reading these forum things I'm just confused.

I'll check back hopefully sooner then another 9 months for the reply.

That update was soooooo two months ago. Hell, I've bought 2 more Evo's since then (Hi, I'm dave and I am a hoarder...step 1 complete!). New plan is to use the blue SP car for gravel, and the tarmac Evo has been sold off in tarmac spec sans drivetrain. Should be off to its new home in a few weeks. But don't worry, if you go to PP this summer, I'm pretty sure it'll be there. drinking smiley

I have an Evo VIII IC in my cellar taking up space. Came off the Lemons car. Decided to swap to a custom mounted WRX IC on the Merkur (in the former battery location) to get more air into the radiator.

Let me look for pictures and post again.
