Budget Rally Computer/Dash Display?

I saw a Finnish M3 build that used this instead of stock cluster.

Seems affordable and easy. Any thoughts?

I have hd a couple trailtech speedo's on my motorcycles. They do last, work great, but are tiny! The one I have also lets you program maintenance reminders by time and mileage.

Yeah. The M3 they had had an alt trickle light, temp warning light, shift light, and Vapor dash. I guess in theory you really just need the warning light and shift light for when on actual stage?

Thats why I am loving the Stack we put in Derik's car. Very bright warning light that comes on when shit gets over/under what you program it to do. The $1,000 it costs is steep, but really, you could spend 4-500 on quality gauges. It does fuel pressure, oil pressure and temp ( I added a rotary switch to select engine, trans, or diff temp with a sender in each) coolant temp, tach, shift light, and speedo.

Which model stack is in Derik's car Sean? Was it $1000 total cost? I've been looking at the Racepak IQ3 http://www.racepak.com/IQ3Dash.php for the celica. Its like $655 for the cluster and then another $300 or so for the adapter to hook it up to the AEM ems-4.

It is one of the lowest spec ones. He got it from the guys at DSG for a good deal. It is so awesome though....

I've used the trailtech on my old cb400. Real neat units, but they really aren't very big. Got a link to the m3? I'd be tempted to put one in the 80 to avoid having to buy a speedo and tach.

What about those AIM kits as well? I was looking at doing a bunch of gauges and then when the total comes up to a few hundred bucks, I thought the same, and might as well just get a decent replacement display.

I have a similar kit in mine - no rev counter in that though because I wanted a "regular" one - so it's just for gas, speedo and a few other bits and bobs.
Works fine...

If you are running an ECU which can spit data to the AIM it's very sweet!

I ditched 4 gauges, and replaced them all with an AIM Strada MXL. it integrates with my Vipec ECU, and gets all it's data from there. I did add a couple sensors to the vipec for things like oil pressure and oil temp, but that certainly was no big deal.

It's super easy to read, and the warning lights are very tough to go un noticed.

One problem is that you cannot reset interval mileage very easily. Back when the Trailtech (it is also a bicycle computer under a different name, I forget what)first came out, which was also in the days of routebook only rallying, I contacted the manufacturer about changing the programming but it was not something they could do easily.

What was your total end price on that strada? I've been looking at racepak and aim because I've also got a vipec. Mine is the v44.

It was about $1K give or take a few bucks, the only thing other than the dash you need is a $20 cable from your vipec dealer.

I weighed all the options of Racepak and AIM, and also spoke with my tuner who has used both dashes, and he highly recommended the AIM.
