Another door question
August 10, 2012 09:49AM
The door cards in my car are cut to clear the cage, basically the bottom half doesn't exist. There was a thin plastic dust cover type thing held in place with some nasty black goop that was dripping out so I cut the plastic out so I could get rid of the goop.

So now there's exposed sheet metal, but it all hides behind the door "X" so it's not really exposed. I assume this is legal since the plastic that was previously there wasn't much if any protection and the car has passed tech that way.

Here's the only picture I have that is halfway decent, you can sorta see the plastic dust cover I removed hidden behind the "X":

So, do I need to put something back in its place? It's a Rally-America car run under SP rules.

Thanks!

I've seen everything from thin plastic riveted to cover that hole to a piece of wood with fabric wrapped over it to cover it.
By my interpretation of the rule book, you do not. The merkur has almost completely contiguous sheet metal on the upper part of door so I didn't use any door cards at all as there are no sharp edges, etc.

I would request it be covered myself, even tho it is pretty hard to get to. A thin sheet of some plastic or pressed board would be adequate.

Don't know if they have them out your way....but... Crazy Carpets work perfect and are stupid cheap.

In Canada crazy carpets are on every street corner, even in the middle of summer.

I had to look up what Crazy Carpets were since I couldn't see putting shag rug in the car. smiling smiley

Yeah, that would be perfect except we've been in record heat and drought for months so my guess is anything snow related won't be out on the shelfs or street corners.

Well, I just found this:

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Colored-Plastic-Rolls-10-Ft,1557.html

1/8" HDPE for $20 for a 10' roll.
