he carbies are joy to work with as always and this engine needs far less fuel then i expected, in 65 power runs it only used 22 litres all day.

The final figure's i'm extremely happy with after a lot of hour's more than most builds due to some one of design's and the application of the MSD ignition.

Here are the number's.
4000 rpm 124hp
5000 rpm 186hp
6000 rpm 202hp
7000 rpm 206hp
7800 rpm 215hp
8000 rpm 208hp
8200 rpm 202hp
8400 rpm 202hp
8600 rpm 202hp
We though about going up till 9000rpm and I said NO the engine has passed all expectation's and has a very flat power curve from 5900 rpm.
My job was to deliver a Datsun engine that was quicker than the old engine, and i wasn't about to build the same long stroke low rev engine that had been used.
I will set the rev limiter at 8400 and shift light at 8000rpm I don't see the owner needing to go over 8000 to often while getting use to the new engine it will be a different world from the old 6600 limiter. If all goes well we will be at full noise in Coffs Harbour on the 14th Oct

And that with an under 2 liter car, 8v and non-crossflow...

Non-crossflow = Intake and exhaust enter/exit same side of the head

Less talk. More rally.

Ho Lee Fuk. I think we got 160 hp outta my L18, redlined at 6500 with 44mm Mikunis and a huge lopey cam. Roller rockers... geeeez.
IIRC the BRE cars back in the day didn't have more then 180. I'd love to see whatall else got done to tbis mill.

Billet intake manifolds - because why not? Interesting piece of work. Torque curve seems kind of narrow; seems like it starts dropping off pretty sharpish but I suppose that's one of those 'non-crossflow' limitations, and besides, should be dropping it nicely to around the torque peak each upshift.

Put a good 2.4 bottom end under this and then get real friendly with your tyre supplier!

Hi Derren, maybe put an advert in the classified here...Hardly any L-series pervs here in our little rally world but christ I spent enough time on those things back in the mid 80s....

Just curious since you're here: I read there's all sorts of stupid State-by-State "engineering" approvals needed when modding normal road cars, and it can be a nightmare or sometimes just a breeze, but what's the rules on swapping in motors into cars for rally down there?
I don't really understand the whole structure of how rally is run and what applies to Clubbie guys cars, State Championships and then ARC..

Please explain in 24 words or less.

I asked over there on Brindabella if people are allowed in sat a Datsun "so called 510" (Not the original, the later one with solid axle) if the rules allowed doing turrets and long link boxes like in a Group 4 Ford..
Zat allowed?
Can you cram in a SR20DE?
Or a FJ20 (I did a rebuild on one of those into a friends '69 510)?

If you're selling your L series stuff, what you going to do?
