Laminating side glass: Good or Bad?
April 29, 2007 06:59AM
So we've got a car we're prepping now for rally and we were talking about laminating the side glass so it doesn't shatter everywhere when we hit stuff with it. Then I got to thinking, if the side glass is laminated, does it make it harder to break it out for escape purposes? So I figured I might as well pose the question. So, Does laminating your side glass make it harder to escape from the car? Are there any other downsides to doing it?

Have you ever smashed a windshield and tried to get it out? It's a bitch of course. I guess the answer to your question is both yes and no.. It would depend on how your side glass is mounted. If you're talking about the door glass and your door has a frame all the way around then I would say yes it will definitely impede your exit because you will have to go out the windshield assuming the doors won't open. (I don't see smashed laminated door glass rolling down, at least not easily.. haven't tried it)

More to the point, I think I'd rather have no side glass than glass I can't see out of.
