Seat mount/belt mount question
March 01, 2013 03:49PM
From my research it seems CARS requires FIA certified seat mounting. Most of the seat mounting I've seen from pictures on here seems like its not FIA certified. Is this something they overlook when people come from the US or if the cross member is not bolted in do they turn you away?

Also (for belt mounting), NASA rally sport rule 3.8.9 New Anchorage Reinforcement- calls out a new anchorage point needing to be 16 square inches and 1/8 inch thick to be used. Seems rather large compared to the FIA regulation. Just put it in?

And in the next section in the rules 3.8.10.1 General mounting system....where is this drawing 253-43 located?

16 square inches? That is pretty large it seems like. Just do a 1X16 plate along the floor then you can get left and right side on one plate.
I thought Canada was on the metric system?

I blame Keith.

Canada accepts 'Merican cars with their safety specs as far as I know. Take your rule book with you.

As far as NRS...honestly Anders just seems to make this stuff up as he goes these days. 253-43 seems to be a bolt-in cage junction picture...http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/1B58641F5BF3AF4AC1257A8A0038BF8D/$FILE/253%20(12-13)-(28.09.2012).pdf so not sure at all on that.

Only 2.5 times the size required for fia.
Belt is 400 cm2, cage feet, 120, backstage is 60. 16 sqin is like 110 cm2.

Grant, check your math. 400cm2 is nearly four times the area you quote for 16 square inches, as 110cm2.

Did you mean 40cm2?

I'll admit....I might be freetarded.

better question would have been....

Can I mount the lap belt and the anti sub belts of my 6 point harness (one on each side) on the same 4" X 4" mounting point? Using the same bolt? This is from a NASA rally and RA legality standpoint.

just to dredge this back up...

stumbled on this - http://www.pfadtracing.com/photos/showfull.php?photo=282 - appears to be the 253-43 that the NASA rules refer to. No idea how old it is...
