So JVL suggested we start a thread for us Foci owners that are going to rebuild the rear suspension. So here, I'm starting it.
John,I know we are going to convert to discs while we are at it. What kind of parts do I need to start to collect, if you know part numbers that are specific that would be best because I'm not that auto parts savvy. Thanks John, Chris |

[thickest , rudest sarcasm I can muster---doesn't work well in print tho ON] Gee Billy, that's fucking brilliant! I mean fawk me! We never thought of that, what a bubcha fawkin imbeciles all of the Fucked-us guys are, NO Wonder they called them Fucked-us. OK guys, never mind, Billy has it all figured out, just fawkling order it from Ford, I'm sure it only costs 30-40 bucks. And just because all 4 who have recently called and ordered suspension has said they are bending their rear junk like this: And this (and that was just a beginner's first 2 half events) And you guys wanted to discuss something like this: Nevermind, it's all handled.. Billy is right on top of the problem and I'm sure if you all PM him he'll have the PNs and the costs for everything, cause he's so fawkin smart. [/thickest , rudest sarcasm I can muster---doesn't work well in print tho OFF] Thank you.. Live and learn, I didn't know you knew what's available for brakes and rally quality links For focus, but it seems you do.. Why don't you take over the thread, and help the guys out. Why?WHY? WHY!!!???? I wonder what the PN is Gene, check your All-scatta! Between you and Billy the guys are certain to come up with cheap instantly available parts like the links and shocks. I mean what's $140 for one hub? why just chop off the drum surface leaving a perfectly good hub, it'll take 5-6 minutes!!! this is great, I get out of a lotta work and Gene and Billy will be the heroes! Disk brakes are a universal Focus part they came on all cars with traction control and the SVT model. No difference in the rear brake between the two. The parts are strong and hold up well in a rally environment. I have roughly 20 rallies on a set of hubs and bearings. I have gone through 1 set of rear brake pads in that time, and I just went a head and replace the rotors while I was at it.
You used to be able to order the whole kit from Ford Racing at a discount, but I think they stopped selling the kit. I bought a spare a year or two ago so I can gather the component part numbers if someone is interested. Your best bet is to buy the stuff from a junk yard and replace what needs to be replaced. Rear suspension is weak. So what. So are a lot of FWD cars. Don't crash and you will not need new rear suspension. John loves the 1st picture of mangled focus suspension. But, looks to me like the driver went off the road backward, or spun and hit something. 2nd picture the only think I see that is damaged is the rear sway bar mount And a dent in the big cross tube. I had a similar dent until I put plastic under the car and all of that damage went away. The coil over shock is a good idea. If you have the skills to modify the body work to accommodate it. There is barely enough room to get a shock next to the tire at the top let alone a spring. Like Billy does with his Civic I prefer to keep the rear suspension mostly stock. |

I'm sure you could find a Volvo S40 in the junkyard and get the rear bits for a lot less than $1500. Pete Remner Cleveland, Ohio 1984 RX-7 (rallycross thing) 1978 Silence is golden, but duct tape is silver. |

I was gonna say, I used to think that the $200+ that Honduh guys would charge for a disc conversion (that they pulled from the junkyard) was steep... KF7RWG http://www.utahrallygroup.com |

Aaron, you been hanging out on Turbopricks? Billy said it's only $1500, and said "just order it..." Odd he hasn't been back to help these poor suckers... And Volvos, well the extra wheel bolt may interfere with the wheel. Since the stupid Fords are 4 bolt wheels on 4.25 PCD. I guess guys can just run out and buy a big pile of Volvo 5 bolt wheels.. It's just (other) people's money. Like..... John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember!
