Xratty windshields?

Ok, my XR runs! But it needs a windshield. This is a critical item for a rally car, and we're having trouble securing one. Rapido has them for $400 plus shipping (and you still have to install it of course).

JVL, Grant, anyone... Ideas on where to get these for a good price? Smart move would be to buy two or more.

Heh - I just had this issue. John sent me this site: http://windshieldstogo.com

They called me back, real friendly folks - and said they could ship one to me (In MO) but it was actually more expensive than Rapido (who gets them drop shipped direct from Pilkington Classics). I think Windshieldstogo.com pricing was about $450? $475? shipped, etc... I know the web site price was not accurate for this windshield, so YMMV. Their site says they have "multiple warehouses", so- if you are closer to a stocking one, you might get lucky (or, hell, maybe they drop ship from Pilkinton Classics too???).

One thing about the shipping with Rapido (drop ship from Pilkington Classics) - if you get it shipped to a dock, it's a LOT cheaper (like $125 cheaper), BUT either way, the shipping is the same on 1..10 windshields, so if you can get some peeps in on the deal - might be worthwhile eventually (I ordered a couple, for the inevitable). The crate is a heavy (265 lb), huge bastard, so just be forewarned.

...unless someone has another source! I'd like to hear it too, to keep options open!

It was a few years ago but the local mobile glass repair shop we called got a windshield no problem. It was much less than $400 installed also.

I think it was took two phone calls to find my second windshield when I had it installed.
The Merkur guys make it sound super rare and unobtanium but there are Chinese ones being made and they are available to glass shops, likely through usual distribution channels.

Gaddam - I guess the midwesterners just cached out all the shops around here. I called like 20? places within 150 miles of STL MO. No one had it.

Ol' boy at Merkur Midwest had one - 300$, pickup only... Sheesh- you bastards are lucky.
