We're privateers, I say for rally where we're ramming into to junk-n-stuff for cars about 2500lbs go with the 3/4" size---also because there's such nice inserts available to poke into the rod ends, NICE stainless ones that self align with installing.

Ok that's my bad on piss poor explanation of what I was looking for. I swear when I'm pecking this shit out on my phone it's sounds better then what actually gets put down.

What I'm wondering is where do you get all the brackets and what not. The parts you mount to the car and to the axle. I figured the links would be the easy part to track down even if I just had to make them.

Do I just need to find someone with a plasma table and have them cut stuff up?

Figure out length and height needed for channel, width determined by rod ends and spacers.. Let's just say it needs to be 28 long, 6 high, 2.5 wide. Go buy a flat plate of 0.125 mild steel in 6 +2.5+ 6 by 28. Use cheap brake to bend into u channel. Cap with a piece of flat stock welded on. Somewhere like speedway or polyperformance should have weld on heavyweight from your rear end. Find Adam cranes pictures, they are great and show stuff well.

I tell you i'm less worried about figuring out how to build the box as more bolt hole spacing and crap like that. like i was reading through the escort rally prep manual and i'm going to assume they know what they hell they are talking about, but for the brackets for the axle part it lists the bolt holes being 5" apart, with a 3" tubed axle that puts the bolt hole only an inch off of the axle tube, not only is that really close to the tube but that just doesn't sound like there is enough space between the bolt holes to be effective in doing what it needs to do to stop the rotation of the axle.

I order suspension and pretty much any metal bracket I need for various builds from these guys:
http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/
Great prices, I think. Most of there stuff is WAY over kill for rallying, but rather a bit too thick than thin. They have great pricing on having custom brackets made as well, just send them CAD drawings or a well dimensioned hand drawing for quotes.

I've probably supplied the bracketry for 98% of the people who have done the long link thang since we did the first I know of back in '87-'88

Tell me waht diameter axle tube youse gots, cause I gotta do some more and that radius is easy.. I do 3/16 plate

Can't remember what diamater it is, but the toyota truck stuff. I want to say 3".

do you have any schematics on your brackets, or at least what is the spacing between the bolt holes on the axles and the boxes.

Yeah I got a schematic...In that folder by this desk...But i have to go machine some spacers for these gawddam 50s cause the upper spring seats I made are different than the 40s i make--somebody---a very rich and famous person is anxiously awaiting his 50s, I don't wanna piss 'im arf cause he has this fiery temper, and will probably break my fawkin legs if I'm later...

means I'll look later..

You want some? or we gonna do the 23 PMs, 11 emails normal routine?

I had custom set of axle flanges and lower boxes made for my Toyota 7.5" rear axle last summer. There is a sort of axle build thread on here. They turned out awesome, fit perfect, made from 3/16" plate. I bought 3 sets, because I got such a great deal, figured I would use them all eventually, or bend an axle some day.

I sure do, but all I'm looking to get at this point is the box sides and the axle tab sides. I'm not sure how the rest of the whole thing is going to lay out at this point, but those are at least the main bits that will help me lay out this in my head. I would still like bolt hole distances, this going to school for engineering makes me over analyze shit way to much, so I'm wanting to see angles between bars N junk. smiling smiley

OK my drawing shows 3" from axle center. 6" between centers.

Don't feel bad, when we were doing this my friend Kevvi Hoikansainalainen was finishing his Maniacal Injur-near degee and was deep into CAD so we did an accurate co-ordinate measure of the underside and inside of a 240 Volvo, then drew up the Toiletta axle and the long Bilsteins I like---made the things go boing and studied the links.

What we saw was in the extreme eventuality of FULL extension on the one side and full compression on t'other that the links ---in the model anyway--could kiss the inside of the boxes..the boxes being straight sided/ So we made the boxes slightly tapered and wider at the ends---Nice to do that on 'paper' before carving on metal...

The thing about making the axle tabs bigger or longer c-c is clearance...They ARE the lowest thing on the whole stinkin car and the WILL have a hard life..so 3/16" and boxes the front and rear... The front lower pick up we designed with an add on wedge shaped skid. Not just an angle dowards and flat cuase flat isn't strong but like V so stronger and to some degree it deflects stuff ramming into it.. Cause it is maybe the second lowest thing on the car and we know we gotta let RWD cars squat if we want grip...and be compliant (not kick) when hitting pot-holes or rocks while on the gas.

Awesome, thanks for the info, but what about the boxes? Do you just have the same 6" or multiple hole locations for playing around with said squat?
