Great replies everyone.

So does anyone know enough about GM to know if the Saturn Vue unit linked to by Robert is controllable with the part that Paul mentions in his post.

The power column seems to be a good retro fit options but the power rack would seem to be the ultimate solution if you could find a rack that had the correct dimensions.

Rotsa ruck on just dims, then there's the ratio, does it turn the right way..
A HUGE amount of very potentially timewasting bollix.
Maybe that's why people like the graft-in the column option

What'd be cooler is if the electric assisted steering column could also adjust the ratio.

But I could get a manual Merkur rack and use the electric column and save a ton of weight and gain a ton of HP!!!

Doesn't Quaffe or someone make some quick ratio manual Volvo racks?

Andrew its obvious that there's many options for electric columns. But everybody knows that the Opel Corsa is the one to have. No reliability problems, tested, tried and trued by tons of racers. Its the one and only to have. No need to reinvent the wheel on this one bud. Its my next mod too because I'm having to manhandle the wheel right now in order to go at any decent speed.

I had one of the GM power racks out of a car a couple years ago. I was impressed by how simple and light it was.

John, this is not Fap Fap as you say. The rack is 2.7 turns lock to lock, I dont remember the travel off hand.

This conversion would eliminate a pump, bracket, hoses, cooler, and fluid. I bet it is 10-15 lbs lighter. Full load current draw around 30 amps, nominal probably 10 amps. Seems pretty good to me.

Imagine using this on a VW, no more pump in a shitty spot. Win.

Sean increasingly most guys are not even low level mechanics, far less have even the most rudimentary fab skills...and most are as broke as you or I.....

THAT makes it fap fap fap...
