Homemade trailers.

Anyone ever done something like this?
I've thought of trying to do so, seems like a not too difficult fabrication job and you can build it how you want.
My thought was a 22-25 or so flatbed triple axle with living space/storage on the front, flatbed on the back. Kinda like a rally gypsy mobile.

Ive been going over this for a while now. Was thinking the way you are. My brother has this trailer set up for going 4 wheeling. Those pop up trailers are pretty cheap used.

The 2 car haulers I've been looking at can have the roof reinforced for walking on. Could pitch a tent up top so as to stay away from the bears.

I seen to they have the sides of pop ups put on trailers now. You think an early 90s motor home could pull a smaller stacker trailer?

I don't care about moose or bears. I care about bed bugs and convenience.

A small tent trailer could work. They must be a good 7 ft wide tho and turned sideways as pictured would give adequate room for a car on a 25 ft (deck) trailer. Since the trailer would be collapsed when towing you could raise it off the deck and use the area under for tires and tools. I like it!

Motorhomes and towing heavy loads...look under the back of one first. Many have pretty wussy frame extensions on the back, and the rear wheels are usually too far forward. Not made for towing much. The new manly diesel pushers at a bazillion dollars are better equipped.

Figures. You all know as well as i do the fuel and lodging is a big deal in rally. we spent $900 in fuel and hotels this last rally. tow vehicle, recce car 10 hour drive plus hotel.

I didnt think the cheap motor homes would be tuff enough. It would be nice to have a confy ride with easy driver changes on the long trips.

I have bought a few tag rv's in the past and stripped them down. they are also pretty cheap at auctions. that would give you the frig showers toilet, water tanks and such.

One guy i race with put a uhaul box on the front of a tri axle trailer. He bought a shop drive on lift narrowed it up and made it an open stacker trailer. He claims to have less then $7500 into the whole thing. pretty nice well thought out looking set up.

why not just get an enclosed 20 or 30 footer and an air matress? if your on the road, ya simply back the car out, inflate the matress, and go to sleep, then in the morning deflate, pull in, and your on your way..... simplistic as it gets... you could even mount a few tip down beds on the walls.

I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to.

Ive done the air mattress thing a lot over the years. It works good for 1 nighters but with rally your on the road 3 to 5 days it seems so a shower and a confy place for crew to chill for hours doesnt sound to bad.

Ive tented and slept in my car on many rally journeys while crewing and marshaling... showers are easy to find, almost any hotel with a pool is gonna have a changing room with showers, camp grounds have shower houses, truck stops also have showers, and you can always ask to use a shower in someones hotel room.. most people in rally will oblige...

Okay, so aside from hygiene, anyone ever built their own trailer? The flat stock I get for cage feet once had some trailer companies name on it. I can much more easily build a trailer over a year or two than buy one now. Any actual trailer building advice/suggestions?
We got band saws, tig and MIG and occasionally bits of enthusiasm.

I've built a couple of car trailers. Just cutting and welding, nothing you can't do. Square it with a tape measure is good enough. Figure your intended gross weight and then decide on 2 or 3 axles. Axles are usually 5 or 7,000 pound rating. Trailer axles have a crown in the center, if you buy a kit then that will be no concern. Keep the tongue around 4 feet to the coupler. Some manufactures use 3 feet to save material but it puts the trailer a bit close to the truck. Frame thickness I'm not much help on, 5 or 6 inch channel may be fine. That is where I'd have to do some research.
