1991 Civic (re)Build

I've technically owned it for 6 months already, but it's finally home!

(For those keeping track, it's the ex-Kilpatrick-brothers, ex-Andy-Kingsley car)

The details:
* '91 Civic DX
* B18A1 & LS transmission
* DA integra knuckles & brakes
* some bilstein coilovers

The intent is to be ready to run the event Denise is working on in Cedar City in August. Truthfully, I'd really like to have the car back together enough to start rallycrossing and testing this spring.

The big plan list:

Has to happen:
* Cobble the two broken transmissions into one working one, with a welded diff
* Put together a new, non-bent-to-hell shift linkage
(^^^ These can go away if I decide to swap the smaller 1.6 with a proper LSD from the "old" rallycross car)

Probably will happen:
* stitch weld front end while engine is out
* swap fancy shifter from old car
* swap big radiator from old car
* rebuild & swap quick steering rack from old car

Near-term "wants":
* general suspension maintenance (bushings, ball joints, bearings)
* Gusset cage to A & B pillars
* Add A-pillar reinforcement bars
* change roof bars to "V"
* add roof vent
* better protection for shift linkage
* revalve, de-spacer, and get adjustable collars & springs for 50mm bilsteins currently on old car
* install ham radio

long-term plans:
* change main hoop reinforcement to 'X'
* dual master brakes
* hydraulic clutch/trans
* proper LSD
* close gearset
* electric power steering column
* move driving position back
* re-do wiring
* retrofit HID projectors into stock style (clear lens) housings

Hey Aaron I see steering quickener in there and it peaks my curiosity.
Is this for manual steering application?? And if so who makes it or is it a pinion gear swap?
It's the last piece of my steering puzzle cause 4 turns lock to lock in the Crx is border line unsafe!

Quaife - manual only, direct swap into a DX/std rack. A Si rack can be used, but needs modification to work.

See http://www.inlinefour.com/quaifquicrac.html (no affiliation, just first online shop that came up).

It's a claimed 2.8 turns lock-to-lock. It has always come out closer to 2.2 or so for most.

It's a bit of a bear parking, gridding etc. Never had a problem (aside from applying too much steering input) once moving rallycrossing or autocrossing.

Cool beans!!! I gotta scoop some back up parts so I'll grab a lower model rack as mine is an si. I had read about this reducer but thought there might be a Honda trick. In my cx ek civic I swapped ex 4 door power steering in and replaced the pinion with an integra pin. Was 2.4 lock to lock. Made life a lot less stressful with all the snow and ice we get here in the winter.
Does the diff make it such a pain in the ass or binding??

Unsure. I went from my CRX HF with the OE steering and open diff, to the (now "old"winking smiley car with the quick rack and the KAAZ.

Def the diff and manual steering, my Suzuki swift was exactly the same. Hold that wheel when there's ruts! I dislocated my thumb at a rally cross in a hairpin rut when the wheel snapped out of mt hand with no power assist. Luckily I popped her back in in the straight.

Center bore needs opened up, and I need conical lugnuts, but the price was right.

What size? 14"?
Nice wheels. Where'd you find them?

Good price (I've paid roughly the same amount for OE Honda wheels, and had to drive 90 minutes to get 'em) and lucky enough to be the first to read the post and email.

Have you run the Bilsteins on any stage rallies, or just rally cross? Just wondering how they're holding up for you so far?

The 50mm bilsteins (EK fronts, EG rears) on the white car in have just been rallycrossed for a few years and are pretty rockin'.

This car has what I believe are the EF application HDs (fronts are definitely 40s), revalved to ? with GC perches and some sort of springs. As far as I know, they haven't been touched since they were first installed - which I believe was sometime after the car started running in 2004, but they might be coming up on 10 years old now. They've seen a decent number of stage events, and a bunch of the Colorado Hillclimb events, and the last owner didn't see fit to touch 'em. On the other hand, he was a "get my coefficients in something cheap so I can go run my STI" guy, so I think he may have avoided doing anything that wasn't absolutely necessary.

I've only driven it onto, then off of the trailer, then into the garage (shifting is, uhh, "not so good" right now). So, no idea what sort of shape they're in now.

Original owner, tommy kilpatrick, likely can tell you specs of anything on the car...

Yep, been in touch with him a bit.
Funny thing is that he actually gave me the sales pitch for the car at one of the national challenge rallycrosses wUtah hosted however many years ago.
