What lube for AN line assembly.
August 23, 2007 08:29PM
It's 25 minutes to the speed shop. It's 3 minutes to Pep Boys. Going in the morning and am planning to make all of my ss braided AN-3 lines with reusable fittings. Do I need the special lube from the shop, or is there a good alternative lube?

How far is it to Rite-Aid?

Astroglide is the best, but KY will work alright... in a pinch...

I usually put a dab of anti-seize on the threaded parts, 'specially libving where things have to be buried in salt as soon as the temp goes below 37f.

Just got back from a thrash on Mike's (rallyho) Slaab in Camden, Maine. We had Brett, Ted, Luke and Jordan who run the turbo 99 out of PA, and Breck and Jeff (?) who are two local Mainah's who Mike recently recruited all cutting Lexan, installing brake master cylinders, steering parts and doing body work in hopes Mike can get a logbook for it in the next few weeks and maybe, just maybe, we can run Tall Pines. That was a hell of a run-on sentence.

There will be a pile of pictures posted in the next 48 hours or so for everybody to look at. I'm pretty fried from the drive, little sleep, PBRs, and Moxie. Gotta go to a family picnic in the morning down in Massatwochits...so I should go to bed.

I occasionally kick my car, I need to make it roll so it can easily move and I can do work inside my garage.

It actually was fine on the teflon braided lines without lube. I bought the AN-3 mandrel from Pegasus, which worked awesome at speading the braid, the brass sleeve slid on with a little body pressure against a wall. Ended up being 2 straight fittings short, due to my not thinking ahead of time about how impossible it would be to use a 90 and a 90 that have to point in the correct directions on two hoses. Doesn't really work. So two straights short and two spare 90s. Not a bad deal.
The guys at the local drag race supply said they just use regular engine assembly lube on bigger rubber hoses if needed though.

The Fragola manual says to use motor oil. That is all I used on the last hundred or so I've put together.
