Subaru, cage tie into to front strut towers?

Anyone have any pics of this done? There's really no way to get to it without taking the hole rain gutter out.

I'd like to tie it in, but not sure the best way without going overboard.

You don't specify if you are talking about a GC8 or GD chassis. GC8 is straight forward and no rain gutter in the way so I will assume GD. In that case it is similar to Mitsubishi and there is a trick to that. Cut a hole through the strut tower and and feed the tube through and plate it off from the inside:

Very nice! Thanks for that; you were correct in assuming GD.

And then plate the inside of the strut tower for the otherside? Or can you get a torch in there to weld the backside of the tower?

No need to plate the inside and outside. BMW strut reinforcements fit on the inside/bottom of strut tower. Common Subaru ones are on the top. Doesn't really matter much for stuff like this.

I meant running the tube through the sheetmetal to a plate on the inside of the strut tower like he did on the firewall, or does a mig or tig torch fit back behind the strut tower?

But you're saying you usually just reinforce the top, not the sides? What did you mean, Grant?

Those pics are EVO right? Assume so.

I like that method a good bit. Might have to check it on my GD as I'm still working out how those are going to be done. Also need to check to see how far down the 'thick part' of the GD strut towers run down again Seems to be more there than the Evo in the pics.. which is handy since its a good bit thicker.

I think in Dave's picture the tube is welded to the front half lateral of roll cage, passes through firewall and through hole cut in the strut tower. Then you weld in a plate with a hole in it to the strut tower hole, weld the tube, grind and plate the top of the tube.
So there is no welding on the backside (engine bay) of the strut tower, just the plate inside the wheel well side of the engine bay.

also Guess that if you're good with the hole cutting there shouldn't be much need to plate the inside (cabin) to keep crap out. Seam sealer should be enough there right?

Seem sealer or 3M aluminum tape or you will surely die.

OHHHHH

ok, so that's what I was thinking, but I thought that second pic was the cabin side of the firewall lmao. I didnt catch the strut top holes. That makes more sense. I put my plate to the backside of the ae86 tower, but it was a BITCH to weld. This is a way better idea hahaha

I did it in a GD the day after I started the thread. I made it way outside so I could still keep the stock blower location. Still in the strut tower area. I'll post pictures this weekend.... when I finish the cage. Only have to finish the drivers side a-pillar.

I could have brought it in a little, but I had enough of making new ducting in the last car I built.
