You sir are very good at building rally cars. How does that toyota axle fit in the rx7 width wise? Also how did it compare in the weight department?

There is no way i would have been able to do this without the help of Al Kun, JVL, and Martin.

this specific toyota axle from the 4runner is the same width as the FC front suspension. Its a ton heavier because its considerably stronger.

That's why my goal is this bad boy: http://www.1speedway.com/Floater_Rear_Ends.htm#msfloat

with an aluminum case. Should still be a crapton stronger than the Mazda bits while still close-ish to the 140lb weight.

So one must ask what happened to the IRS rear?
140lb huh I recall the toyota with all mounts on it weighing in at 185. Lots to add but could be worse I suppose.

I was wrong, a GSL-SE rearend (big bearing/big axle, 4.5" bolt pattern) weighs 160 with rotors and calipers.

the toyota was weighed without brakes for the record. Also not sure how accurate it would be… I weighed it with a bathroom scale.

All bathroom scales seem to read about 20% high or more....smoking smiley

Hey Alex what are you doing for caliper mounts on the toyota axle? I've got a few ideas based on what the off road guys do with 4 runners (bolt on bracket) but figured I would ask what you got on the table.

Hey Alex, I talked with John V today, about my 1g RX7 build. I'm putting in a Toyota rear end with 4 link and panhard bar, John's coilovers and I was going to make the rear towers taller for the rear coilovers. I was wondering how high you made your towers.

Thanks

basically as high as i could go. the tops (above which the eyelet sits) are about level with the 1/4 window bottom

Ok, thanks. Also did you put a 2nd gen steering column or subframe in? It looks like the column might be like 2 inches short.

yea i used the entire FC front drop out and the column. Now, the FC column does come up short. If the junkyard Gods smile upon you however, a power steering FB column is longer and will work quite well.

Until i find another one, im staying with the FC column and just dealing with whatever.
